Primary Function of Organizational Unit Residential Life is responsible for providing a safe and supportive community for North Carolina Central University students through services, programs, and high-quality facilities focused on student success. Primary Purpose of Position Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Residence Life, the Area Coordinator is a live in position that is responsible for residence hall management and programming. This includes but is not limited to graduate and undergraduate staff supervision and recruitment, residence hall operations, customer service, crisis management, student programming. hall opening and closing, health and safety checks, and serving in an on-call duty rotation. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work in a residence hall environment
Knowledge and skill in supervisory practices and techniques
Effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective student/staff relationships
Knowledge of counseling, conflict management and crisis intervention strategies
Sound organizational and administrative skills
Familiarity with facilities maintenance and custodial processes
Application and practice of student development approaches
Minimum Education/Experience
This position requires a master’s degree in education, college student personnel, counseling or human development, or a related field.
A minimum of 2 years full-time work experience in college/university residence life operation.

Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Residence Hall Operations Administer student check-in, check-out, and room changes; assist with room condition reports and damage billing processes
Report, track, and follow up on maintenance issues with appropriate facilities and residential life staff
Serve as the primary contact for parents and family members of residents
Maintain accurate and up to date information in housing assignments system
Other duties as assigned
Function
Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Supervision Directly supervises Graduate Hall Coordinators, Resident Assistants, and Desk Attendants
In directly supervises contracted security company staff.
Conducts regular one on one meetings with staff.
Conducts fall and spring semester evaluations
Participate in the recruitment, selection, and training of residence hall staff
Other duties as assigned
Function
Administrative Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Student Conduct and Crisis Management Review all incident reports and police reports (if available) for incidents that take place in the community and/or involve residents living in the community
Respond to residents in need, referring to other professionals, when appropriate
Provide leadership during times of crisis in and adjacent to the community
Assume shared responsibility for residential life on-call duty weeks year round
Assist in emergency situations as needed
Implement NC Central University and Residential Life policies, Community Living Standards, and Student Code of Conducts
Clearly communicate Residential Life policy to staff and residents.
When necessary, assist RAs and GAs in confronting residents who violate policies.
Provide programs and other proactive educational interventions to enhance good decision-making by residents
Other duties as assigned

Maintain high visibility and availability, including attending community events, regularly touring the community, and interacting with residents

Collaborate with faculty and staff stakeholders to implement programmatic opportunities, some of which may be connected with living learning community themes
