Position Overview:
The Education and Outreach Coordinator will play a pivotal role in advancing the goals of our newly adopted strategic plan by strengthening community engagement, increasing access to trustworthy financial education and services, and building long-term partnerships that drive client outcomes. This position will serve as a bridge between the community and our organization’s counseling and financial services, with a strong emphasis on outreach, education, and client-centered navigation. We’re looking for a passionate, community-driven professional who is eager to help people improve their financial well-being and access life-changing resources including homeownership support, credit counseling, and financial coaching.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, counseling, business or related field or high school diploma or equivalent and five years’ experience in a financial-related or human services-related area. National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) Certified Consumer Credit Counselor, Housing Counseling and Financial Educator certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire. HUD Certification recommended within 18 months of hire. Ability to relate and maintain relationships with businesses, nonprofit agencies, higher education institutions, and clients. Ability to recognize and control biases and refrain from making judgments is necessary. Demonstrable computer skills and knowledge of consumer credit is desired. Works harmoniously with staff while making sound judgments and demonstrating good problem-solving skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work independently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including proven resolution skills.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education, social work, finance, communications, or a related field. Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills. Experience in community engagement, outreach, or nonprofit education programming. Ability to build relationships with diverse community partners and stakeholders. Comfortable working in a hybrid role that combines outreach, group facilitation, and 1:1 support.
Responsibilities:
Community Engagement & Outreach Build and sustain referral and educational partnerships with schools, nonprofits, employers, and community organizations. Represent the organization at community events, with a focus on promoting financial education and awareness. Develop strategies to enhance the organization’s brand visibility and recognition across Winston-Salem and surrounding communities. 4.11.25 Work closely and meet regularly with the Chief Development Officer and Financial Management and Education Director to discuss community needs, workload, marketing efforts, and program development; collaborate on service goals by identifying needs through active engagement with universities, human service agencies, employers, and business partners to promote the agency’s services and ensure high community visibility, while also providing monthly statistical data. Financial Education & Support Deliver financial education workshops, classes, and presentations tailored to diverse audiences. Translate group education participation into 1:1 client referral for counseling and coaching services. Serve as a warm, knowledgeable liaison between educational outreach and direct service staff, ensuring seamless client hand-offs. Training & Certification (within the first 12-24 months) Complete certifications in NFCC Counseling, Housing Counseling, Financial Educator and HUD Housing Counseling. Crosstrain with internal teams to provide individual counseling and coaching across all program areas. Program Development & Strategic Impact Support organizational goals to expand financial education delivery by 25-50% over three years. Help increase access to housing counseling and downpayment assistance through education driven referrals. Track impact metrics and partnership outcomes and contribute to grant reporting and program evaluation. Prepare reports on community outreach and financial education activities as required and develop and utilize objective means to measure success, whether by client surveys, increased services, or other methods to determine the success of the agency activities. Agency Responsibilities Maintain professional conduct and promote a positive image of agency by ensuring an understanding of program services and other available community services. Adhere to Agency policies and procedures, employee handbook. Be sensitive to the needs and circumstances of clients and respect diversity among cultures, gender, age, etc. Promote a positive image of the program and agency by demonstrating an understanding of the services available and conducting oneself according to a professional code of ethics. Assist in furthering the mission of the organization. Be a team player and maintain harmonious working relationships with agency staff, funders and partners, educators, business associates, customers, and other related service agencies by amenable and cooperative contacts. Assure confidentiality of information related to clients and other information of a confidential nature. 4.11.25 Maintain active professional competency by participating in training and workshops for professional growth in areas pertaining to duties and responsibilities. Meet regularly with supervisor regarding job responsibilities and share concerns/suggestions.
