uncg.edu/) has 26 full-time faculty in the sub-disciplines of Applied Neuromechanics, Athletic Training, Exercise Physiology, Sport & Exercise Psychology, Pedagogical Kinesiology, Socio-historical studies of sport, and Sports Medicine. The department is one of ten departments or programs in the School of Health and Human Sciences ([https://hhs.uncg.edu/](https://hhs.uncg.edu/)) at UNCG. Kinesiology faculty have a history of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service, and the doctoral program was highly ranked in the most recent (2019, 2023) National Academy of Kinesiology national rankings of doctoral programs in kinesiology. The department is committed to inclusive excellence and was recently selected as the 2025 winner of the American Kinesiology Association’s Inclusive Excellence Award. The department is in a modern facility with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and access to extensive classroom space. Kinesiology is the 5th largest department at UNCG serving approximately 700 undergraduates and 175 graduate students. The department offers B.S., M.S., M.S.A.T., and Ph.D. degrees on campus, as well as an online Ed.

  • Applications are invited for a tenured faculty position to serve as Professor and Chair in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

This is a 9-month appointment as a faculty member with a 10-month for chair responsibilities which will continue for the duration of the appointment as chair.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Department Chair is responsible for providing visionary leadership and administrative oversight to advance the teaching, scholarship, and service mission of the Department. This includes planning and executing a strategic direction for the department, building and managing the schedule of classes, supporting faculty development, and ensuring high quality educational experiences for undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, this role includes managing personnel matters, stewarding departmental resources, and advocating for the department within the university and to external stakeholders. The Chair reports to the Dean of Health and Human Sciences and is supported by administrative staff, with some administrative responsibilities delegated to the faculty through directed professional activities (e.g., associate chair, program directors). In addition to administrative responsibilities, the department chair may be expected to contribute to the department through research/scholarship, teaching and student mentoring in areas of expertise, and appropriate university and professional service.

  • Hold a doctoral degree in kinesiology or in a sub-discipline of kinesiology
  • Have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with the rank of full professor
