Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Pediatric and Public Health provides oral health care for individuals from infancy through adolescence, and promotes the prevention of oral disease. The Pediatric Dentistry discipline is committed to the treatment of children, adolescents and special needs patients while balancing teaching, scholarship, patient care, research and professional service activities. Position Summary The Patient Relations Representative serves as a main point of contact at the front desk for the Pediatric Dentistry Graduate and Student clinics.

Responsibilities include:

assisting patients through registration process, appointment scheduling, verifying patient demographics and insurance information to ensure accuracy for payment processing and insurance billing; maintaining clinic schedules (scheduling, canceling and/or modifying patient appointments); answering busy multi-line telephones; communicating with faculty and clinical staff in triaging urgent care patients; performing cashiering duties and end of day cash drawer reconciliation. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Selected candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills; be a self-starter and work independently, demonstrate initiative, and use sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion; be skilled in processing patient payments and reconciling day-end cash drawer report; possess the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships; be dependable, adaptable, and willing to learn new skills. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Customer service/front desk experience in a dental or healthcare setting with knowledge of patient scheduling and insurance verification. Prior training/experience with UNC systems, EPIC or related electronic medical record system. Knowledge of dental terminology. Bilingual (Spanish) candidates are highly desirable.
