Organizational Unit Overview The Honors College (HC) and its programs are part of the Division of Academic Affairs. The Honors College provides outstanding undergraduate students with an enhanced and supportive intellectual and social environment that acculturates them to the life of the mind. HC programs help these outstanding students to become critical, independent thinkers who are active in the design and pursuit of their own education and prepared to lead successful and fulfilling professional, civic and personal lives. To this end, the HC offers numerous opportunities incorporating service learning, leadership development, study abroad, and undergraduate research. These opportunities encourage students to travel to state and national honor conventions to present papers or make presentations, an exclusive living/learning community, seminar-style classes with limited enrollment, and access to other curricular and co-curricular experiences. Job Duties The Student Success Coordinator is primarily responsible for supporting the goals and missions of the Honors College by providing individual student and/or group advising related to Honors and general education curriculum requirements (matriculations through graduation), academic issues, and concerns, selection of courses and major, co-curricular programs and creating/devising unique and valuable educational experiences. The Student Success Coordinator works closely with members of the Honors College staff to ensure our students are supported and achieve success. Advising and Student Development Initiative – 50%:
Provide academic advising/support services to undergraduate Honors students by conducting individual and group advising sessions
First point of contact for student inquiries related to academics and co-curricular opportunities
Advise students on Honors requirements and degree completion
Advise students about internship and fellowship opportunities
Create success plans, monitor progress of probation students, implement engaging and inclusive instructional methods, and technology-enhanced learning
Offer regular office hours for student consultations and academic support Database/Information Management – 30%:
Manage nomination process for internal and external student awards
Manage (with support from Associate Dean) Honors College Signature Honors Project process
Manage database for tracking and maintaining accurate student records and devise/manage SOPs related to academic progress, scholarship status, GPA reporting, SHP completion, etc.
Analyze student academic information and provide timely and accurate reports as needed Curriculum Support and Delivery – 10%:
Teach honors college courses as requested and appropriate
Coordinate and support programming led by other Honors College staff members
Support, develop, and participate in new student orientation/open house/commencement activities as well as other programmatic responsibilities
Participate in curriculum design and revisions Continuous Training and Learning – 10%:
Work closely with ECU advising collaborative and other campus partners as appropriate
Promote student involvement in social, volunteer, campus and civic activities and organizations, to enhance their collegiate experience
Other related duties as assigned Contingent upon availability of funds. Minimum Education/Experience Master’s degree received from an appropriately accredited institution. License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation n/a Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education 3 years of experience in higher education, which can include teaching, advising, and/or counseling experience; knowledge of college student development; and strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer-service skills.
