One-three years of experience in working with student populations and in working and collaborating with community based organizations, government agencies, and non-profits. Chavis Student Center is the hub of campus and is operated by the Division of Student Affairs, which administers programs and services, provides guidance and resources to student leaders and organizations and serves as the campus’ central point of reference in regard to facilities, information, leadership development, student activities, and organizations. The mission of the James B. Chavis Student Center department is to encourage and support the educational, social, and cultural enrichment of students by creating an environment of opportunity for student, faculty, staff, and community interaction. Primary Purpose of Position The Assistant Director is responsible for the shared development, implementation, and supervision of a comprehensive campus engagement and student development program which meets the needs of the university community. Job Description Fraternity and Sorority Life Advise the fraternity and sorority community programming board, All Greek Council. Oversee fraternity and sorority member recruitment processes, budgeting, event planning, risk management, and judiciary processes. Share advising responsibilities for the five (5) fraternity and sorority councils [IFC, Hok Nosai (Native American Greek Council), DGC, NPC, and NPHC]. Work with student members, campus, local and national advisors, (inter)national organizations to support chapters in meeting and/or exceeding the standards of behavior and excellence expected by the institution, local chapters, and national Greek letter organizations. Engage in organizational development plans with chapter officers with an emphasis on continuous quality improvement and growth. Train and ensure that all FSL groups have updated information on the student engagement platform (BraveConnect) and that they are actively using the system, including hosting events, tracking attendance, hosting forms, governing documents, etc. Oversee the marketing, assessment, and financial management affiliated with FSL groups. Student Organization Support In collaboration with the Associate Director for Student Engagement, administer the Student Organization Leadership Development (SOLD) program. Assist in the scheduling, organization, and implementation of training and development opportunities that support the success of student organizations; including but not limited to Student Organization Roundtables, EMPOWER, and more. Serve as the primary point of contact for student organization advisors affiliated with FSL. Assist with planning and implementing advisor trainings, both in-person and virtually, and ensure all new advisors and continuing advisors are compliant with advisor training requirements. Ensure that all fraternity and sorority groups have active faculty/staff advisors and those advisors know policies and procedures needed for operating these organizations. In collaboration with other division staff, plan, implement, and evaluate student leadership trainings. Programming Advise All Greek Council in the planning and implementation of special FSL events including Meet the Greeks, Hazing Prevention Week, Greek Week, etc. Support general programming efforts of the office including initiatives like Late Night Breakfast, Homecoming, Festival at Old Main, leadership development initiatives, student organization support, and other events. Other Duties Assist in the management of the student/organization engagement platform, Presence/BraveConnect. Support Division of Student Affairs initiatives and other campus partnerships, such as Orientations, Open House, and Move-In Day. Some late night and weekend work is required. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Engagement. Management Preference Bachelor’s degree and two to four years professional experience working in student engagement, Greek life, student activities, or related field at a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
