Teaching Full Job Description Position Description Pay Grade:

Manager 5 This position assists with the coordination of all instructional and academic activities within the department and provides assistance with curriculum/course development. This position assists the Department Head with providing oversight of the department’s supplies, equipment, processes, and facilities across multiple campuses. Responsibilities and Duties (•Essential Functions) To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Responsible for keeping the Division Dean and Department Head informed of the operation of the supervisory unit, as applicable. Assists Department Head in scheduling classes and creating faculty schedules, as assigned. Assists Department Head with addressing and resolving faculty and student concerns and issues. Provides effective instruction for course(s), as assigned. Assists Department Head in hiring, evaluating, and supervising adjunct faculty as assigned Projects needs and secures resources for the department in terms of staffing, texts, supplies and/or equipment in a timely manner. Assists Department Head in the hiring and performance management of full time faculty, including classroom observations, evaluation, oversight, mentoring, and discipline. Actively involved in promoting enrollment growth. Activities include maintaining records and gathering/analyzing departmental data including class enrollments and departmental enrollment trends, maintaining catalog, website, and brochure accurately and promoting courses offered by the department. Projects needs and secures resources for the department in terms of staffing, texts, supplies and/or equipment in a timely manner. Assists Department Head with curriculum development and course development. Provides support to faculty in their professional development and growth. Assists students with degree requirement override requests. Assists the Department Head with collection and analysis of departmental IE assessment data. Ensures department syllabi are compliant with current college and division policies and procedures. Serves as a collaborative partner on the managerial team. Activities include, but are not limited to, helping to create divisional policies and leading a divisional project or committee. Helps in planning and conducting department meetings. Supports and assists faculty with meeting college initiatives; for example, ADA accessibility compliance, technology, grants, and Applied Benchmarking projects Complete an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or group basis

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficient with MS Office products including MS Word and Excel. Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills. Exhibits strong leadership skills. Evidence of ongoing professional development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of advances in the field. Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently. Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision. Able to stay current with technology relating to course instruction.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in English or related field or a Master’s degree with 18 semester hours in English or related field. Three years of post-secondary teaching experience in English or related field. Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership skills.

Preferences:

Prior supervisory experience in a post-secondary academic setting. Community college teaching experience. Experience working on grants. Experience addressing technology and ADA accessibility issues.
