The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state’s public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education. The North Caroline Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is seeking applicants for an Education Program Director I (

Working Title:

Section Chief) within the Office of Career and Technical Education. The primary purpose of the Office of Career and Technical Education is to provide state-level oversight, technical assistance, and leadership to all Public School Units (PSUs) for the improvement of secondary education programs and for planning, implementing, and monitoring of state and federally funded Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and services. Services provided include analyzing and interpreting state and federal laws regulating state policies. This position focuses on curriculum acquisition, assessment acquisition, professional development, collaboration with CTSOs, and work-based learning. The Section Chief reports to the Assistant Director for CTE and provides leadership for the staff who develop and support implementation of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) and Health Science (HS) Education. The Section Chief will provide visionary leadership of curriculum and assessment for all pathways within the CTE Course Inventory. The position will also be responsible for supporting the goals and objectives of the NC State Board of Education as well as the Federal Carl D. Perkins Act. This position is expected to provide expertise in current instructional practices in Career and Technical Education and will facilitate the planning of professional learning (which may include face to face, virtual, and/or blended opportunities) to support standards implementation and program support.

Understanding of best practices in professional development design and delivery, as well as strategies for effective program evaluation.
