Position Summary Information Minimum Qualifications Education:

Requires a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university. A concentration in communications or marketing is preferred. Due to working with our alumni population, Appalachian State undergraduate and graduate graduates are strongly encouraged to apply. However, the selection will not be solely based on knowledge or experience with Appalachian State University.

Skills:

Two years of experience and demonstrated proficiency: Graphic design and its alignment with the Office of Alumni Engagement’s current branding Social media content creation Demonstrated proficiency in photography and videography Demonstrated proficiency in matching voice with brand in written communications Ability to adapt to various software platforms and utilize them fully. Strong time management skills, including the ability to complete numerous projects simultaneously Excellent written and oral communication skills, including some experience in public speaking Ability to manage print and web marketing projects promoting alumni services and giving, including some experience in print and web design Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva Expertise in Google products and internet technologies Ability to represent the Alumni Association and Appalachian State University positively to all constituents demonstrated through customer service

Demonstrated significant proficiency (with two years of experience): Graphic design and its alignment with the Office of Alumni Engagement’s current branding Social media content creation Excellent written and oral communication skills, including some experience in public speaking Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva Essential Duties and Responsibilities Communications Create and design graphics that align with the Office of Alumni Engagement’s current branding and strategy, as set forth by the Associate Director. Develop ideas, design, and create social media content to increase engagement while following the Office of Alumni Engagement’s current branding and strategy, as set forth by the Associate Director. Assist the Associate Director in developing communication strategies and engaging with alumni online. Develop and create alumni event registration for chapter and network events, including a landing page, registration form, list management, and event communication. Develop and create alumni event registration for athletic reunion events, including a landing page, registration form, list management, and event communication. Assist in developing and creating alumni event registration for academic units, including a landing page, registration form, list management, and event communication when needed. Develop strategic opportunities in collaboration with the Associate Director to educate internal and external audiences about the impact and significance of alumni engagement and enhance alumni connections with the university. Work closely with the Advancement Communications team on alumni spotlights and stories, and promote those stories. Ensure timely production of web, email and print-based promotions for chapters and networks. Research and manage alumni communication issues as needed in collaboration with the Associate Director and University Advancement Services. Develop promotional messaging for events, recruitment, etc., while adhering to the Office of Alumni Engagement and University Communications Brand/Identity Standards. Work with the Programming and Engagement team to support the communications and management of the Ask a Mountaineer mentoring program. Assist with developing chapter and network communication strategies and outreach via email, website, and social media. Team Develop and nurture partnerships with development officers, communication liaisons, and administrators across campus to cultivate alumni engagement. Collaborate with alumni, faculty, staff, and students to advance the alumni association’s mission and advocate for the significance of alumni involvement through service, financial support, and engagement. As part of the Alumni Engagement team, contribute to the university’s alumni engagement efforts, including but not limited to attending University Advancement events, athletics and arts events, serving on university committees, and participating in signature alumni events. Travel, as needed, depending on engagement and staffing needs. Work may be required after regular business hours or on weekends as part of our engagement strategies. Advancement and Campus Partnerships Ensure that interactions with alumni, focused on philanthropy and engagement, are strategic, consistent, and of the highest quality in partnership with University Advancement. Facilitate collaboration between the Office of Alumni Engagement and the Office of Annual Giving through social media and other communications when needed. Collaborate with Career Development/Career Services to establish a strong, clear connection between alumni and career development. Volunteer Management Assist with chapter and network toolkits as needed. Provide training as needed to volunteer leadership.
