Job Summary:

The Director of Disability Services plays a critical leadership role in promoting an inclusive and accessible campus environment for students with disabilities. The position oversees ADA compliance and related federal and state disability laws, coordinates student intake and accommodation processes, provides community-wide training and education, and advises student groups related to advocacy and inclusion. The Director is also responsible for developing and growing the disability office, expanding services and infrastructure, and collaborating across departments to foster a culture of universal access.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversight of Compliance and Accommodation Services:

Serve as the university’s subject matter expert on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other relevant legislation. Coordinate and oversee the implementation of reasonable accommodations and academic adjustments for students with disabilities, including those related to learning, physical, sensory, and mental health disabilities. Evaluate and determine reasonable accommodations, including but not limited to assistive technology, note-taking support, exam modifications, and housing/dining accommodations. Implement academic adjustments for pregnant/parenting students and students with temporary medical conditions. Supervise testing accommodations, including proctoring services and space management.

Student Support and Intake:

Manage the student accommodation intake process, including reviewing disability documentation and engaging in the interactive process to determine eligibility. Maintain accurate and confidential records of student accommodations and communications. Provide individualized support, case management, and follow-up with students to ensure accommodation effectiveness and compliance.

Community Training, Education, and Advocacy:

Develop and deliver regular training programs and workshops for faculty, staff, student groups, and administrators on disability awareness, inclusive practices, and universal design for learning (UDL). Collaborate with campus stakeholders to plan and promote awareness events and initiatives related to disability inclusion and accessibility.

Student Advocacy and Support:

Serve as an advisor or liaison to student groups focused on advocacy and inclusion. Serve as a conduct hearing officer for the student conduct hearing process when needed Serve as a member of the Title IX team (i.e. advisor, investigator, etc.) Encourage and support leadership development among students with disabilities.

Campus Collaboration and Consultation:

Consult regularly with Faculty, Residence Life, Academic Support Services, Registrar’s Office, Dining Services, Facilities, and other departments to provide expert guidance on access and accommodations. Provide consultation on accessible design and event planning to ensure equal access to university events.

Strategic Planning and Program Development:

Develop and implement a long-term vision for growing the Accessibility Office, including expansion of services and campus-wide initiatives. Identify gaps in service and recommend enhancements to support diverse student needs. Collaborate with university leadership to integrate accessibility into campus policies, procedures, and planning efforts. Departmental Requirements Accurately disseminate information to internal and external constituents when necessary. Attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and individual meetings with the supervisor Report writing as requested by the supervisor Communicates the Jesuit philosophy and University policies to students, parents, and personnel as appropriate Maintains a high degree of professionalism and works respectfully with all staff, students, and parents regardless of their race, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, national origin, gender, age, or disability. Attends departmental, divisional, and university-related events as needed Assists with other duties as assigned by the Director(s) or divisional leadership

Salary Range:

$60,000 – $62,000

Qualification Standards:

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a higher education setting. In-depth knowledge of ADA, Section 504, and applicable legal requirements. Experience conducting student intake and determining accommodations. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Ability and willingness to learn additional software and cloud-based systems

Education:

Master’s degree in Disability Services, Counseling, Higher Education, Social Work, or related field.

Experience:

Strong understanding of Microsoft Office (i.e. Office, Excel, etc.) Strong understanding of the Google platform (i.e. Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.) Working conditions: The work schedule for this position is 35 office hours during the work week. Evening and weekends are required when needed for university events. Final scheduled hours will be determined with the Dean of Students upon acceptance of the position.

Physical requirements:

Must be able to lift 40 lbs, bend, stretch, and stand for extended periods of time (5% of time). Must be able to sit (60% of time), climb stairs (10% of time), reach (5% of time), and walk (20% of time).
