Job Summary:
Management of operational systems, clinical assessment, education, marketing and customer satisfaction as well as the operation of non-discriminatory practices. Manage, direct and lead the department and staff in a manner that facilitates and supports census development, customer service and to assure appropriate patient placement for admission. Ensure federal, state and local compliance governing our facility as it relates to admissions. Delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out the assigned duties.
Reports To:
Administrator Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the overall function and operation of the department. Direct supervision of staff and resources. Develop and maintain operational systems within the department which supports maximum census initiatives at all times consistent with resident needs, special care units,admission criteria and non-discriminatory practices. Review and update admission criteria with facility departments as needed to ensure referring facility and community needs are being met. Facilitates on-going communication with admission personnel as to clinical and financial guidelines for admission. Assure forward flow and documentation of referrals/applications, PRI’s and all related documents required for admissions in a timely, customer friendly, responsive manner. Assure that departmental systems are in place to track accurate data on all referrals,admissions, denials and other non-materialized transactions. Assure that a census report is generated and circulated to relevant departments on a daily basis. Generate monthly referral and admission reports with a summary analysis of data and recommendations for departmental and/or facility improvements. Assure that departmental quality assurance activities are instituted, monitored, trended,reported and resolved in a timely manner. Assure referring facilities’ needs and opportunities are identified and met. Observes and reports trends in referral patterns and makes appropriate recommendations as indicated. Monitor and communicate opportunities for new referral avenues and enhancement of programs and services with the Marketing team. Develop and maintain written admission policy and procedures, manuals, forms,department job descriptions and performance appraisals, review and update at least annually and as directed. Participate in any facility inspections and plans of correction. Acts as liaison with our participating partners for business development when appropriate. Generates an annual report of goals, objectives, staffing projections and departmental budget. Monitor monthly budget allocations and assure that department costs are within budget allowance. Participate in administrative staff meetings, special projects, and task force groups as assigned. Conduct facilities tours, scheduled or walk in as needed. Keep abreast of current Medicare, Medicaid, and Civil Rights regulations governing admission, discharge requirements of healthcare facilities. Participate in open houses, speaker’s bureau, workshops or other educational and marketing activities on behalf of The New Jewish Home. Coordinate such activities with the Marketing Department. Perform on-site clinical review of patients as needed or as demand warrants. Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident information to assure resident rights are protected. Release information in accordance with established policies. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes. Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc. as approved. Create and maintain a positive working environment with warmth and personal interest. Assume responsibility for maintaining professional competence through participation in programs of continuing education. Assure that departmental staff participates in in-service education. Assure that in service is conducted annually for admission staff and department heads on all aspects of admissions, civil rights, nondiscrimination policies, record maintenance,etc. Willing to work beyond normal working hours for events and outreach when necessary. Other job duties as assigned.
Specialized Skills and Competencies:

Demonstrate the ability to work in a high pressure environment. Demonstrate the ability to lead and direct staff. Job Qualifications Registered Nurse ( with NY license) or NY licensed Social Worker Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred. Minimum of 2 years hospital experience, experience in discharge planning preferred. Experience in long-term care preferred. Excellent communication skills. Minimum of 1-2 years management experience. Age Related Skills and Competencies Ability to communicate and interact effectively with adults and geriatric population. Physical Demands Subject to frequent interruptions, must continuously prioritize tasks and issues. Involved with residents, resident families, personnel, visitors, referring facilities, government agencies, etc. under all conditions and circumstances. Sit, stand and must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, family members, visitors, personnel and support agencies. Must be able to relate to and maintain calm, professional behavior with, ill, disabled,geriatric, emotionally upset individuals and at times anxious individuals within the facility.
