A Director of Enrollment and Outreach is responsible for all aspects of student admission and enrollment proecess to meet the institutional enrollment goals. This involves developing and implementing strategic recruitment plans, overseeing outreach activities, managing the admissions funnel, and supervising a team of admissions and outreach professionals. They also play a key role in fostering relationships with prospective students, families, and external partners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Director of Enrollment and Outreach Interpret the school to prospective candidates and their families, primarily through personal interviews and tours of the Institution. Direct the admissions process from point of inquiry through enrollment. Coordinate/administer all admissions testing. Manage/participate in the administration of all financial aid programs. Prepare and maintain statistics regarding enrollment, geographical distribution of students, financial aid, and attrition. Interpret these statistics, when appropriate to the administration, faculty, and board of trustees. Coordinate and participate in all recruitment efforts: advertising, direct mail, Internet web page, etc. Coordinate and participate in special events involving prospective students. Promote good relationships with outside institutions or groups (schools, libraries, civic associations, nursery schools, real estate agencies, etc.) which can be helpful in attracting quality students. Work with members of the administration and faculty to organize specific retention efforts at the key grade levels. Assist the director of communications/alumni relations in the development of promotional materials that interpret the school to prospective students. Develops methods of assessment for reviewing admissions applications Reviews applications from prospective students. Schedules meetings to discuss student applications. Takes note of all readers opinions of student qualifications. Travels to other academic institutions to recruit and encourage students to apply. Maintains records of applications and application decisions. Responds to inquiries about admissions decisions. Assists in setting admissions goals and limits for upcoming years. Devises new ways to make the admissions process more efficient and streamlined. Conducts campus interviews with applicants. Oversees the design, creation, and distribution of application and admissions materials. Develops and maintains relationships with administrators at deanery schools. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrates detailed knowledge of school’s requirements and standards. Possesses detailed knowledge of school’s enrollment caps and financial aid limits. Is familiar with the structure and organization of academic institutions. Education and Experience A Director of Enrollment and Outreach should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Student Administration, Student Affairs Business, or a related field and an active teaching certificate. Most admissions directors have also earned Master’s Degrees in similar subjects, and have had several year of previous work experience in academia, preferably in a managerial or upper level capacity. Work Environment A director of admissions spends the majority of his or her working hours in an office setting, reviewing applications and processing paperwork. Some local and national travel for recruiting purposes may also be required. The average workweek for an admissions director is approximately 40 hours, though many work overtime during application seasons.
