The James C. Curvey Assistant Director of Endowed Scholarship Services, reporting to the Executive Director of Stewardship, within the Office of University Advancement was established through the foresight and generosity of Mr. James C. Curvey ’57. This position was established to provide focused, cohesive support for the most prominent and prestigious endowed scholarships at Villanova, among those the Curvey Scholarship and Fellowship-serving as the primary campus liaison for recruitment, student activities, support and services, alumni engagement and donor relations for these top-tier, donor funded programs. This position will be responsible for providing essential support for the James C. Curvey Endowed Scholarship and Fellowship at Villanova, which supports students from Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania and Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. This position will maintain close ties with the Office of Enrollment Management, the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of Student Retention, the Center for Access, Success and Achievement, and other partners that support the recruitment and retention of scholarship students. This position will also manage Curvey scholar and alumni events, opportunities, and activities, and will provide appropriate donor reporting. This position will assist the Director of Stewardship and members of the Frontline Team with the identification of and stewardship planning for donors with top-tier, endowed scholarship funds. This work includes but is not limited to scholar cohort and alumni cohort-donor relations, events and activities and specialty donor reporting and recognition. Occasional evenings and weekends as well some travel for recruitment and other activities related to this position will be required. Duties and Responsibilities Provide oversight and management of the James C. Curvey Endowed Scholarship and Fellowship at Villanova University
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, student recruitment, student support on campus, coordination of scholar events and field trips and other activities on and off-campus, management of an annual spring event for prospective students, current scholars and alumni, management of the Curvey Fellowship Program and ongoing support of Fellows during their travels and building the alumni network.
Serve as a primary point of contact for scholars on campus, supporting retention and success at Villanova University
As the “hub” of support, check in regularly with scholars and designated staff to ensure that students are accessing/aware of the tools and resources they need to excel at the University
Work with counselors and other student services on campus (among those: the Office of Student Retention, the Office of Financial Assistance, the Center for Access, Success and Achievement, and the Presidential Scholars Program) to monitor student progress and identify any potential challenges students may be facing to ensure that they receive appropriate support
Act as a central point of contact for scholar families and prospective students
Establish and foster authentic relationships with cohorts of students to ensure connectivity to the University
Work with scholars and appropriate University contacts on Curvey Fellowships and other similar scholarship-related initiatives
Maintain a calendar of communications with scholarship alumni to keep them engaged and apprised of activities related to the scholarship program and/or the University to deepen the sense of pride in the community and of being a part of their scholarship program
Serve as primary point of contact for donors related to Villanova’s most prominent scholarships
Provide ongoing updates on progress of scholar recruitment and scholars’ progress/achievements at Villanova as appropriate
Create opportunities for scholar-donor connections via a robust stewardship program, with touchpoints in the fall, winter, and spring
Manage scholarship-related events and on-campus visit experiences, including formal on-campus, annual events, and identify and execute new opportunities for in-person connections among donors and scholars
Report on the financial activities of the donor funds annually; seek opportunities to include not only information about current scholars, but details about the achievements of graduating scholars to demonstrate ongoing impact of support
In partnership with Enrollment Management and other University community constituents, market and help ensure a pipeline of scholars who meet the donors’ specific guidelines
Efforts will include travel, relationship-building with partner secondary schools, and other recruitment efforts
Coordinate the development of web and/or print materials needed to support recruitment efforts
Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
3-5 years of similar or related experience required.
Must possess knowledge of Advancement industry practices.
Superior written and verbal communications skills.
Must be comfortable communicating with prominent donors.
Excellent writing and editing skills, with a high level of attention to detail and strong grammatical knowledge.
Demonstrated proficiency directing and working on multiple projects with concurrent deadlines.
Must be able to prioritize a multifaceted workload and adapt to changing needs.
Exceptional time-management skills.
Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with a sound understanding of quality customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience with student and/or alumni program development within higher education and experience with student recruitment in higher education preferred.
Understanding of stewardship for donor-funded scholarship programs-particularly report and acknowledgement development-and a demonstrated understanding of stewardship best-practices preferred.
General understanding of endowment services and practices and financial administration preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and a Teams environment preferred.
Experience in working with CRMs such as Salesforce and relational databases with an understanding of advancement industry system applications.
Prior knowledge of, or experience with Blackbaud Award Management (formerly Academic Works), Banner and Cognos, is a plus.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours Ability to travel and work some nights/evenings/weekends will be required. Salary Posting Information Commensurate with experience.
