POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Housing & Residence Life leads residence hall housing operations and management, ensuring a vibrant and supportive residential community. This role also oversees the Residence Life staff and partners closely with Facilities (FMPC), Business Office, Dining Services, and Event Management to provide a seamless living experience. Campus housing and a partial meal plan are provided as a part of the compensation package.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Housing Related Responsibilities:
Oversee the overall operation of university housing (excluding maintenance and custodial services), including opening and closing of halls, off-campus release process, first-year, transfer, and graduate student assignments, upperclass student room selection process, and residence hall key inventory and distribution. Maintain student residence information through management of spreadsheets, databases/information management systems. Strategize and propose initiatives to increase student housing retention and occupancy that aligns with the institution’s values and mission. Develop maintenance and project management in collaboration with Facilities. Facilitate the purchasing and management of residence hall furniture. Track and monitor budget. Oversee residency and meal plan appeals. Update and maintain departmental website, AMOS page, and social media on a regular basis. Assist the Office of Event Management with summer conference groups that require lodging. Provide assignments for residential participants. Prepare and audit summer conference keys with the assistance of student workers. Resident Life Related Responsibilities Support student staff with the design and implementation of educational programming and community development initiatives focusing on healthy, respectful environments that encourage student learning and development. Encourage the development and ownership of student responsibility, programming, and leadership. Be knowledgeable of, interpret, support, and enforce University and residence hall rules and regulations. Review residence hall information reports. Determine appropriate intervention and follow up with residents and student staff. Assist the Assistant Director of Residence Life with training and professional development of the residence life student staff, as well as staff acknowledgment and recognition efforts, including but not limited to Staff Appreciation Week and Staff Banquet. Assist Dean of Campus Life with and participate in recruitment and selection of residence life student staff.
Student Life Responsibilities:
Participate, with other professional staff, in a 24/7 “on call” emergency response/crisis intervention rotation system. Serve as a case administrator and adjudicate cases as assigned by the Office of Student Accountability. Serve on the University’s Behavioral Intervention Team and assist in the counseling of students on personal and development matters. Work in collaboration with offices within the Student Life Division. Assist with Student Life and University projects and committees, as assigned. Perform other Student Life related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in a related field required. 5-7 years of professional experience in housing and/or facilities operations, paired with an ability to handle multiple demands, is strongly preferred. Skills or experience in residence life, student staff supervision, leadership development, community development, conflict resolution, and a commitment to student learning and the student life profession paired with the desire to maintain an active involvement with students and families, as well as faculty and campus administrators at all levels, is preferred. Willingness to take on additional responsibilities based on previous experiences or institutional needs is expected.
