Primary Function of Organizational Unit The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The Administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Educational Support and Faculty Development, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs. The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences. Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the rural population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service-Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. In order to operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed.
Job Duties

INTERNAL POSTING

Open only to applicants currently employed by East Carolina University.
Leadership and Strategic Planning
Chairs the Student Progress Committee.
Monitors and tracks predoctoral dental student progress outcomes and develops and implements programs and services to support student success, retention, enrichment, advancement, and graduation.
Serves as the chief advisor on standing operating procedures related to student progress and academic due process for the predoctoral dental program.
Prepares outcome measure data and reports to ensure compliance with CODA standards and for University reporting purposes.
Participates in school-wide strategic planning.
Works with Faculty Council to adjudicate Student Progress Committee recommendations including, but not limited to, student dismissal and graduation.
Maintains confidential records of Student Progress Committee actions.
Serves as a member of the Dean’s Executive Council.
Academic Advising and Support
Meets with individual students who are experiencing difficulty in navigating the predoctoral curriculum.
Advises students on academic policies and procedures, including those related to academic performance and related matters.
Monitors students in academic distress and coordinates support interventions.
Provides strategic consultation and collaborates with predoctoral course and module directors in conjunction with the Director of Academic Success and SoDM Learning Specialist to formulate and coordinate customized remediation plans for identified students.
Provides general oversight and direction for the SoDM Learning Specialist to manage the student tutoring program.
Team Supervision and Development
Leads the Academic Success team, which includes the Director of Academic Success and SoDM Registrar and the SoDM Learning Specialist.
Provides training and professional development opportunities for team members.
Collaborates with the Director of Academic Success and SoDM Learning Specialist in developing sessions to enhance student performance.
Collaboration and Communication
Works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators across the school.
Delivers a monthly report to Faculty Council on Student Progress Committee activities.
Promotes an environment where all students receive due process while ensuring performance benchmarks and ethical standards are met to ensure public safety.
Collaborates with external partners to enhance student success initiatives.
Maintains a strong collaborative relationship with the ECU Registrar.
Maintains a supportive relationship and open communication with students, faculty, and staff.
Works with the Director of Academic Success and SoDM Registrar, SoDM Course Directors and other administrators in compiling yearly calendars for the predoctoral dental program.
Works closely with the Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics and Education team, and with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, to foster student success in the curriculum.

Minimum Education/Experience DDS or DMD from a CODA-accredited institution or equivalent
Current service as a full-time SoDM faculty member
Five years of prior service as a full-time dental faculty member at ECU SoDM
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation NC Dental License
