JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Orientation plays a critical role in supporting the development and execution of comprehensive orientation programs for incoming students, including first-year, transfer, and graduate students. This position is responsible for designing and implementing programs and initiatives that facilitate a successful transition to university life and support students’ academic, personal, and social success. The Assistant Director will collaborate with university departments, faculty, and staff to create an inclusive, welcoming, and informative environment that positions students for a successful start as a Clemson student.

On Campus Orientation:

Collaboratively lead the planning and execution of “Ready, Set, Roar,” the in-person orientation experience for undergraduate students, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and values. Collaborate with campus partners, including colleges and academic departments, student affairs, auxiliary services, and facilities, to organize sessions, workshops, and activities. Manage logistics, including scheduling, venue reservations, technology needs, and communication with participants. Develop materials, resources, and communications for incoming students and their families. 30%

Virtual Orientation:

Lead the planning and implementation of the virtual component of new student orientation, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and values. Collaborate with campus partners including colleges and academic departments, student affairs, marketing and communications, and the CRM and student portal team to provide accessible and engaging content for incoming students and develop online modules covering key topics that support the successful transition of new students. Monitor student engagement with the online orientation platform and provide technical support as needed. Analyze feedback and data to continually enhance the virtual orientation experience. Ensure the online orientation complements in-person programming and serves as a resource throughout students’ transition to the university. 20%

Graduate Student Orientation:

Serve as the primary liaison to the Graduate School to develop and implement tailored orientation programs for incoming graduate students. Collaborate with graduate program directors, faculty, and student services to identify and address the unique needs of graduate students.
Support logistics, schedules, and content for graduate-specific orientation sessions, ensuring alignment with the university’s academic and professional standards. Gather and analyze feedback from participants to refine and improve graduate orientation offerings annually. 10%

Assessment and Evaluation:

Develop and implement assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of orientation programs and gauge student satisfaction, engagement, and learning outcomes. Analyze data to assess the impact of orientation programs on student success and retention, and prepare reports and insights to continuously improve and innovate the orientation experience, addressing emerging needs and trends among incoming students. 10%

Tours and Visits Support:

Collaborate with the Visits and Events colleagues to enhance campus tours and special events for prospective and incoming students especially supporting signature events such as admitted student days, family weekends, and open houses.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • 1st Bachelor’s Degree Experience in student services programs

Education

  • 1st Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
