Reports to the School Principal or his/her designee
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Provides responsible monitoring of all students assigned to the study hall.
Provides a study hall atmosphere that is conducive to learning by maintaining order.
Ensures that students adhere to the school’s conduct guidelines.
Reports improper behavior to administrators.
Handles disciplinary actions and disruptions.
Maintains files on study hall related disciplinary incidents and actions.
Performs a variety of functions that promote the orderly conduct of students and enhances the District’s educational environment.
Maintains an accurate record of students’ attendance through organization and maintenance of records and files.
Reports record of students’ attendance to the appropriate person(s) in a timely fashion.
Communicates directly with teachers concerning student assignments.
Interacts with and encourages students and answers questions related to homework assignments.
Assists students with class work.
Creates and maintains seating charts for each study hall session.
Coordinates related support activities and schedules.
Assists teachers by supporting academic instruction and classroom activities.
Provides teaching assistance such as reinforcing skills, completing roll call and student counts; administering make-up tests, etc.
Provides general information to administrators and responds to other requests as required.
Serves as a mentor to students.
Directs students to guidance counselors or school administrators as appropriate.
Writes passes to allow students to leave study hall for appropriate reasons.
Performs other related duties as required.
Job Specifications Education and Experience:
2-year associate degree or higher, or 60 semester hours of college course work, or Silver Level WorkKeys, or WIN Readiness Assessment at Silver level, and taken and passed the ParaPro Assessment. Proficient in computer and word processing software; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to complete job requirements.
Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of the District’s policies and procedures pertinent to the duties of the job.
Thorough knowledge of handling discipline and working with students.
General knowledge of student schedules and typical workloads.
Strong knowledge of attendance policies and attendance tracking software and procedures.
Knowledge of clerical activities and procedures.
Knowledge of basic clerical functions and office procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of mentoring and counseling methods.
Skills:
Ability to coordinate student activities and schedules.
Strong written and verbal communications skills necessary to handle difficult and emotional situations.
Ability to keep up-to-date on current policies and procedures.
Ability to make decisions in non-routine situations requiring good judgment.
Ability to accurately record and distribute student attendance records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents and other individuals/groups with interest to the school District.
Possesses the skill needed to counsel and assist juveniles.
Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
