Job Responsibilities
The South Carolina Judicial Branch invites applications for The Bar Admissions Coordinator II in the Supreme Court Clerk’s Office. Under the supervision of the Bar Admissions Manager, this position plays a critical role in supporting the bar admissions process by processing applications for admission to practice law, licensing as a foreign legal consultant, and handling various certification requests. The Coordinator assists in the scheduling and administration of the South Carolina Bar Examination and ensures timely and accurate responses to inquiries from applicants and the public. This role is vital in maintaining the integrity of the admissions process and upholding the professional standards of legal practice in South Carolina.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
This job bulletin represents general duties for this position and is not intended to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Manage the intake, review, and processing of applications for admission to practice law, including limited certificates, foreign legal consultant licenses, pro hac vice applications, and requests for certificates of good standing and lead counsel certification in death penalty cases. Provide timely responses to inquiries regarding applications or licensing.
Track the progression of applications through the admissions process by ensuring completeness, and requesting additional information or documentation as needed. Handle fee processing and submit payments to the Office of Finance and Personnel in a timely manner.
Assist in the preparation and administration of the South Carolina Bar Examination, which includes the Multistate Bar Examination, Multistate Performance Test, and Multistate Essay Examination. Prepare critical communications for applicants regarding the exam schedule, location, and rules, and process requests for special accommodations.
Oversee the administration of exams for applicants with approved special accommodations. Responsibilities include giving instructions, managing examination materials, supervising proctors, and ensuring the integrity of the exam process.
Support the Bar Admissions Manager in organizing and conducting admissions ceremonies for new members of the South Carolina Bar.
Assist in maintaining the records of the Bar Admissions Office, including overseeing requests for bar admission records and ensuring compliance with the records retention schedule.

High school diploma Must have dependable transportation, as it may require mail to be taken to and from the post-office.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge:
Understands and complies with all ethical requirements applicable to court employees and maintains confidentiality regarding all non-public information related to applications for bar admission. Must have a complete understanding of grammar, punctuation, and spelling to help identify errors in opinions, orders and other documents
Skills:
Proficiently uses modern office technology including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, scanners, fax machines, postage machines, and copiers.
Abilities:
Use a personal computer and upload and save files;
Attention to detail;
Work independently and problem-solve;
Prioritize work effectively and meet deadlines under pressure;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing.
Ability to prepare correspondence that is grammatically correct and properly formatted. Exercise discretion;
Maintain trust and confidentiality;
Other characteristics:
Must be able to lift and move heavy boxes/files weighing 40+ lbs., including moving boxes around for storage;
Must have willingness to take on other duties as needed.

Prior experience working for a court, in a court related field, or as a paralegal is preferred. Associates degree or higher preferred.
