Residence Life and Housing Job Purpose Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Life, the Residential Success Coordinator coordinates the administration and operations of assigned residence halls on the Winthrop University campus. Job Summary Coordinates the administration and operation of two smaller residence halls (about 425 students).
Responsible for the development of academic living/learning communities.
Assists in the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures.
Assists with short- and long-range planning.
Maintains an office and regular office hours.
Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates 8 to 10 resident assistants, 25 office hosts, and 10 to 15 night hosts.
Plans and implements training programs and workshops for Residence Life staff and chairs departmental committees.
Counsels staff members and students; enforces all university and Residence Life policies; and adjudicates residence hall disciplinary cases and administers sanctions.
Coordinates residence hall maintenance with Facilities Management, Custodial Services and Facilities Design and Development.
Approves and inspects room personalization requests.
Rotates “on call” duty and responds to personnel crises and building emergencies on a 24-hour basis, including during break periods.
Coordinates summer conference housing, summer school housing or other summer functions and projects.
Advises one or more residence hall councils and student groups. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree.
Must be willing and able to reside in the residence hall year-round and work a schedule that includes some evening and weekend hours. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in college student personnel or related field.
Two years of experience in housing or related college student affairs position, including live-in experience as a resident assistant (resident advisor), senior resident assistant, resident director or equivalent.
Experience working with academic living/learning communities.
Supervisory experience helpful. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary Knowledge of best practices related to residence hall operations.
Understanding of academic living/learning communities and their operation/function.
Knowledge of interpersonal/group interaction; student development theory; and counseling techniques and the ability to counsel/advise students effectively/appropriately.
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to coordinate/monitor a variety of ongoing projects/activities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion and exercise mature judgment in difficult circumstances.
Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, parents and general public.
Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others.
