Description The University of Tennessee Libraries is seeking a transformationaland collaborative leader to serve as the Associate Dean forResearch, Collections, and Assessment. The Associate Dean reportsto the Dean of Libraries and is a member of the Dean’s seniorleadership team as well as of the overall leadership of theUniversity Libraries. The Associate Dean will lead and shape library programs andservices to align with the research, learning, and service missionsof the University of Tennessee, a research-intensive, land-grant,flagship university on the rise. The ideal candidate willprioritize cultivating partnerships and fostering continuousimprovement in pursuit of excellence. Success at the University ofTennessee Libraries hinges on strong partnerships both within theLibraries and across campus. These efforts are guided by ourvalues: community, inclusivity, leadership, service, innovation,and sustainability. The Associate Dean will be instrumental in developing andimplementing strategic plans that align with university priorities.

They should possess domain-specific knowledge and be anorganizational thought leader in their areas of responsibilitywhile maintaining an up-to-date understanding of current trends andissues in research libraries. The Associate Dean oversees approximately 55 full-time employeesacross several key departments, including Acquisitions & ContinuingResources, Assessment Programs & Collection Strategy, CollectionManagement & Sharing, Cataloging, Special Collections, ResearchImpact & Open Access, as well as operations within the LibraryStorage Annex (under development). The successful candidate willfoster the growth and development of colleagues within a highlycollaborative environment. The position is located in Knoxville, TNand relocation assistance is available.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting directly to the Dean of Libraries and collaboratingclosely with the senior leadership team, the Associate Dean isinvolved in library-wide planning, budgeting, operations,communications, and policymaking. Provides strategic and innovative direction to support andsustain faculty research, student learning, and the university’sservice missions in areas of responsibility. Develops and maintains a broad network of partners on campus toadvocate for and advance library programs and initiatives and tocontribute to the wider work of the campus. Serves as a representative of the Libraries in areas ofresponsibility and maintains a profile as a campus citizen, workingin coordination with the Dean and others to contribute to thegreater good of the university. Serves as a mentor and coach to faculty and staff in areas ofresponsibility and maintains a strong commitment to developing thecareers and skills of direct reports, faculty, and staff. Ensures compliance with best practices and national standards,maintaining expertise in policy areas relevant to theirportfolio. Works strategically with the Dean and others to position thelibrary for success in the broader research, learning, and servicemissions. Collaborates with UT System partners to build beneficialpartnerships around collections and otherresponsibilities. Maintains an active professional profile nationally andglobally, representing the libraries on various committees andworking groups. Represents the libraries to the Office of Research, Innovation,and Economic Development and supports faculty researchefforts. Serves as a member of the leadership team, embracing aservice-oriented vision that prioritizes organizational anduniversity needs.

Salary up to $160,000 based on experience, faculty rank, and opentrack.
