We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to enhance the accessibility of higher education, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment, and improving the recruitment and graduation of our students. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been ranked by Forbes as one of America’s best large employers, as recognized on the 2024 list. The target starting salary for this position is $68,000 – $73,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This position develops and coordinates strategic recruitment and outreach initiatives designed to attract competitive in-state students. Counsels a diverse set of prospective students and parents. Represents UTK and Undergraduate Admissions at recruitment events. Coordinates and manages schedules of travel, visits, and general office duties. Manages a team of regionally based admission staff in West, Middle, and East Tennessee. Holistically reviews prospective student applications for admission. This position will be based in Tennessee (preferably East or Middle Tennessee), and have a recruitment territory focused in Tennessee while also supporting states in close proximity as necessary. The position will also work with the Strategic Outreach and Recruitment Team to lead the UT Division of Enrollment Management in executing inclusive admission and outreach efforts both in West Tennessee and nationally.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree-
- 3+ Years professional experience in admissions at a regionally accredited college or university.
- Experience giving oral presentations.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, data driven decision making and relationship building.
- Experience communicating effectively with students and families from broadly diverse socioeconomic and sociocultural backgrounds.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree-
- 5+ Years professional experience in admissions at a regionally accredited college or university or college counseling in a secondary school setting.
- Experienced people management
- Experience giving oral presentations.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, data driven decision making and relationship building.
- Experience communicating effectively with students and families from broadly diverse socioeconomic and sociocultural backgrounds.
- Territory management, report building and maintenance, and the use of data driven decision making for planning and strategy development.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Attention to detail, writing, listening and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to independently, and strategically plan visits, events and presentations for prospective students.
- Ability to lift, transport and distribute objects up to 40 pounds.
- Oral presentation/public speaking skills.
- Knowledge of the university admissions process.
- Ability to problem solve and research solutions.
- Ability to strategically plan, with experience in territory management, report building/maintenance, and the use of data for decisions, planning and strategy development.
- Knowledge and skills in specifically leading a team of staff, to recruit students of varying academic abilities and varying socioeconomic backgrounds, reinforcing organizational/institutional vision and university goals.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of university travel policies.
- Ability to work with new technologies to enhance recruitment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with primary and secondary school aged youth.
- Ability to speak an additional language beyond English fluently.
