Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to serve as a visionary leader to elevate our Honors Program to new heights. Essential Functions
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to enhance the program’s reputation, impact, and student experience. Lead recruitment efforts to attract top-tier students and implement strategies to retain and engage them throughout their academic journey. Lead competitive Honors admissions decisions. Implement robust assessment practices to measure the program’s effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.
Secure funding and resources to support the program’s initiatives and enhance student experiences. Manage the program budget to strategically meet goals.
Manage and mentor a team of dedicated staff and student leaders. Collaborate with Honors staff on student orientation, onboarding, and first-year retreats. Represent the interests of the Honors Program at University-level committees.
Collaborate with faculty on the design and delivery of innovative, interdisciplinary honors courses and co-curricular programs. Maintain strong relationships with faculty to enhance the quality of honors courses, leadership and research opportunities. Recruit faculty to teach Honors sections and to propose new Honors Colloquia each term. Advise Honors students on Honors academic offerings and proposal-based course alternatives. Recruit, refer, and advise students through the application process of nationally-competitive scholarships. Promote student participation in civic engagement and faculty-mentored research opportunities by overseeing programming and co-leading biweekly meetings for the Honors Engagement Fellows program.
Build community at the Program, University, and national level. Cultivate a vibrant and inclusive honors community through engaging events, workshops, and social activities.
Collaborate with colleagues in the honors professional community to exchange best practices and innovative approaches to challenges in supporting the academic growth of honors students via state, regional, or national councils and conferences. Communicate with faculty, administration, other campus constituents, and external stakeholders. Maintain relationships with alumni and other external honors partners.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with seven years of related professional experience or a master’s degree from an accredited institution with five years of related professional experience.
Professional or personal experience with honors programs.
Experience with mentoring or leadership.
Experience with curriculum development.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree preferred from an accredited institution.
Five or more years of experience in higher education.
Proven experience in higher education administration, preferably in an honors program setting.
Record of securing funding and working with university advancement.
Demonstrated experience in program evaluation and assessment in higher education.
Experience with strategic planning and program development.
Work Hours:
Typical hours are 8 am – 4:30 pm; occasional nights and weekends as needed for programming events and activities.
Salary:
Commensurate with education and experience. Pay grade 14.
