Instructional Coach (10 months) – Decatur Middle Decatur City 302 4th Ave Ne, Decatur, AL 35601

SUMMARY:

To assist teachers in implementing targeted teaching practices selected to accelerate student achievement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

: Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence. Works collaboratively with other members of the school faculty to implement, strengthen, and support instruction and intervention. Demonstrates a high level of skill in instructional coaching at all tiers of instruction. Uses age-appropriate instructional strategies in all tiers of instruction to improve student achievement. Works collaboratively with other members of the school faculty to monitor, analyze, and use data daily in all tiers of instruction to assist in making decisions for improved teaching and learning. Demonstrates the ability to help teachers decide on the best use of methods and materials to help students acquire necessary skills, taking into account the different needs and abilities of individual students. Plans and/or facilitates professional learning to improve instruction and student learning. Utilizes a variety of coaching strategies to differentiate support (grade level, departmental and vertical team meetings, individual and peer coaching). Uses a collaborative approach to determine, design, and deliver professional development. Exhibits effective communication skills. Demonstrates depth of content knowledge and a strong commitment to the improvement of teaching practices. Participates in school co-curricular programs and district program improvement efforts. Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ethics and works cooperatively with the Board, Superintendent, administrators, board employees, parents, and students. Implements professional learning plans and maintains proper certification. Meets with teachers and other professionals as deemed appropriate to discuss the individual needs of students. Uses computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations. Attends staff meetings and serves on committees, as required. Demonstrates qualities of patience, understanding, trustworthiness, and attention to work. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, board policy, and school principal and submits records and reports in a timely manner. Models appropriate personal characteristics and work habits that are consistent with personal development goals established for students. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations. Implements and follows state and local curriculum guides. Assumes responsibility to perform any other tasks assigned by the principal.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

A Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution A valid Alabama State teaching certificate Certification in Instructional Leadership preferred Minimum of (5) years of successful teaching experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret teacher textbooks, electronic media, general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS

Certification in Instructional Leadership preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to use their hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and infrequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.

Listed below are items that may be necessary to complete your employment process in order to compute your annual salary. Use the following information when requesting verification of experience from your past employment at other boards of education: Within the state of Alabama, experience must be verified on Supplement EXP Outside the state of Alabama, we must have a letter (on school district letterhead) or public school district form showing beginning and ending dates stating your years of service and position held while employed Credit is awarded for public school experience only, private, parochial, or similar experience will not be accepted Experience must be full time at least 50%-100% of the academic year Administrative credit will be awarded only for experience in the same position, i.e., principal for principal position as stated in the salary schedule

Transfer Sick Leave:

If you have sick leave from another state school system or from another state of Alabama agency, you must have a Sick Leave Transfer form sent from your previous employer to our Human Resources department The Decatur City Board of Education awards a salary based on the highest degree earned, even if the degree is outside education. The degree must be verified on an official transcript & recognized by the Alabama State Department of Education.
