JOB DESCRIPTION

Center for African Studies and Master of Sustainable Development Practice Program (MDP) seek an instructor for a 2-2 teaching load to join the MDP faculty. The instructor will also advise MDP students and conduct her/his own research. This is a one-year position that will begin in Fall 2025. In Fall, the Instructor will teach the core MDP course Development Theory and Practice AND co-teach the core MDP course Conservation and Development Practice. In Spring, the Instructor will teach the core MDP course Foundations of Economic Development in Africa and Latin America OR the elective MDP course Gender and Empowerment in Development AND co-teach the core MDP course Design and Methods for Sustainable Development Practice. The instructor will take additional responsibility in advising students, including potentially serving as chair or member of supervisory committees. This advisory role will include providing guidance during the planning and implementation of student field practicums and in the analysis of the information generated from their capstone experiences. UF is the state’s oldest, largest, and most comprehensive land grant university with an enrollment of over 50,000 students and was ranked 6th in the country among public universities (US News and World Report 2023 rankings) and 1st among public institutions in the Wall Street Journal 2023 survey. UF is located in Gainesville, a city of approximately 150,000 residents in North-Central Florida, 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, and within a 2-hour drive to large metropolitan areas (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have completed all degree requirements for an accredited PhD, or equivalent international degree program. An international degree must be verified through NACES.org before acceptance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in appropriate Social Science discipline such as Economics, Sociology, Geography, Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, or Development Studies is required as well as demonstrated knowledge of and skills in methods of development research and practice. Training and field experience in African Studies is preferred.
