ELA and Social Studies Qualifications:
Education level
- Bachelor’s degree. Certification or Licensure
- Appropriate and current Missouri Teaching Certificate Experience desired
- Graduate degree and previous classroom teaching experience of at-risk teens is preferred. Other requirements
- Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education.
Excellent organizational skills, oral and written skills, time management, and computer skills.
General Summary:
This position requires a strong background in working with at-risk teens. Additionally, skills in areas such as de-escalation, motivation, and building a positive rapport with students is necessary. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of various teaching and assessment strategies and be able to communicate this knowledge effectively to building teachers and parents. The statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the individual assigned to this job. Performance Responsibilities:
Directly responsible to the principal of his/her building. Expected to develop lesson plans and instructional materials as a part of a planned learning experience to motivate students. Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment, including but not limited to establishing a positive rapport with students of various backgrounds Responsible for organizing his/her classroom in a manner to assure optimal teaching and learning. Responsible for establishing all reasonable classroom rules and regulations for the conduct of the students. Responsible for the discipline of students, but shall consult with the Principal, when needed. Expected to monitor student performance in a variety of ways: oral, written, and other forms of informal and formal assessments. Expected to manage instructional time effectively and maintain a high level of student time-on-task. Expected to evaluate student academic growth, maintain accurate records, prepare progress and grade reports, and communicate frequently with parents on individual student progress. Maintain an atmosphere in which character, self-reliance, responsible behavior, and a positive self-image are of prime importance. Complete all reports as required, including student evaluation, inventories, orders, curriculum work, and lesson plans. Attend faculty meetings, in-service meetings, team meetings, grade level/departmental meetings as required. Supervise students in out-of-class activities as required. Share in sponsorship of student activities and participate in faculty/community committees. Supervise teaching assistants, paraprofessionals, students teachers, and volunteers when applicable. Responsible for utilizing data and diagnostic information to develop and revise goals, objectives and assessments to assure student needs are met at the appropriate level of difficulty. Expected to treat all students in a fair and equitable manner and interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community members. Expected to pursue focused, job-embedded professional development activities; read professional journals, collaborate with peers; be involved in building and district initiatives, and strive for continuous improvement.
