General Function The Instructor is a member of the ranked faculty whose duties require effectiveness in teaching, a commitment to staying current with their discipline and appropriate pedagogies, and a willingness to serve the academic unit, college andor University. The Instructor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. Effective January 1 2007, the Instructor rank is a tenure-track appointment only for faculty appointed by the two-year open admissions campus at West Plains and the Greenwood Laboratory School.
Description of Primary Duties Instructor:
Essential Functions
Instructs students improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of language study.
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Manages student behavior providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, andor goals providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
Advises parents andor legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student’s achievements; developing methods for improvement andor reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
Administers developmental testing programs, subject specific assessments, etc. for the purpose of assessing student competency levels andor developing individual learning plans.
Counsels students improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom andor subject specific assignments providing an effective program that address individual student requirements.
Directs student teachers, volunteers andor student workers per Missouri State University policies and provides an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
Facilitates student learning achieving success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through defined lesson plans.
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents files and records providing up-to-date information andor historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
Participates in a variety of meetings and workshops conveying andor gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepares a variety of materials documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies maintaining students’ personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
Responds to emergency situations resolving immediate safety concerns andor directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources resolving issues, providing information andor direction.
Performs other related duties as requiredassigned.
Teaching assignment will included: 6th grade Algebraic Thinking Mathematics and 6th grade Geography
Supervision duties will also be assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Instructor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.
Additional Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in teaching, education, or related field (or currently pursuing an advanced degree), required
- Certification in middle school mathematics (grades 5-9), required
- Prior K-12 teaching experience, required
- 1-6 elementary or other certification at the middle school level required
