The instructor of Economics is responsible for course preparation, delivery, grading, and records management. The instructor will work closely with his or her discipline chair and other discipline or cross-discipline faculty on matters related to and for the benefit of the CALA department and its students. “Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the posting may close without notice.” Examples of Duties Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction, including seated, online, hybrid, or blended as needed at any of Durham Tech’s instructional sites Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times, and comply with institutional rules and regulations to classroom instruction and general employment Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the department, division, and college Serve as educational advisor to students and participating in semester advising and registration activities for both assigned advisees and as needed by individual students Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, committees, and other special appointments Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation and in the identification, development, preview, and acquisition of educational resources and supplies required to meet program objectives and improve instruction Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms Attend training and other professional development opportunities on- or off-campus and stay current with developments in the field of instruction Complete all mandatory trainings Fulfill committee assignments and other special appointments within the educational community as well as the community-at-large, and otherwise giving appropriate support to institutional endeavors when appropriate; Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college Assume responsibility for laboratory/classroom preparation, including cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment Minimum Qualifications A master’s degree or Doctoral degree in Economics or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Economics (COM) coursework.
Preferred Qualifications:
18 graduate semester hours in Economics and / or college-level teaching experience in Economics courses.
Work Experience:
Two years of successful curriculum Economics instruction at a university or community college. Supplemental Information Thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System Demonstrated ability to use modern instructional technology (Microsoft Office, learning management systems, e-mail, Internet, student information databases, library research databases) and experience with Internet-based instruction Competence in oral and written communication skills necessary for effective teaching Ability to be organized, accurate, and punctual with paperwork and assigned tasks Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, colleagues, and community groups Ability to establish and maintain effective, civil, and respectful communication and interpersonal relations throughout the college and the community Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality

Normal Working Hours:
A minimum of a 40-hour work week (including a teaching load of 15-18 contact hours per week) as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include evening and weekend hours. This position is a nine (9) month position with the possibility of a supplemental contract during the summer term for teaching duties. Summer schedules may vary to enable four-day or four and one half-day work weeks.
