Human Services Exploration:

DSS Casework and Income Maintenance Caseworker courses. Central Carolina Community College is seeking a dedicated adjunct instructor to teach Social Services Caseworker courses (Phase I

  • HRD-4000 and Phase II
  • HSE-3220) in accordance with the North Carolina Community Colleges System Office and the NC Department of Social Services (DSS) regulations and established curricula.

Completion of HRD-4000, HSE-3220, National Career Readiness Certification (min. Bronze), and bilingual (Eng./Spa.) abilities are advantageous.
The Income Maintenance Caseworker (IMC) Instructor is responsible for delivering comprehensive training to prepare students for roles within North Carolina’s Department of Social Services; courses are offered across Chatham, Lee, and Harnett counties.

Ability to teach daytime, evening, and/or weekend classes
Instruction may be delivered as traditional in-person (seated) classes or through a hybrid format, including synchronous/asynchronous online lecture/theory and hands-on labs
Adjunct faculty are required to attend department meetings, participate in professional development related to classroom instruction and pedagogy, and maintain any required certifications and eligibility to teach related subjects.

  • NC FAST
    Prepare students for the National Career Readiness Certification Exam (ACT WorkKeys)
    Facilitate classroom and/or hybrid classes in accordance with approved instructional methods and established course outlines
    Facilitate hands-on training sessions, simulations, and practical exercises
    Assess student performance through evaluations, assignments, and examinations
    Provide timely feedback to students and program coordinator
    Complete, maintain and submit accurate documentation (attendance rolls, sign-sheets, instructor/course contracts, required state reports) in compliance with college and NC DSS requirements
    Abide by college-wide policies and procedures regarding classroom conduct
    Adhere to the scheduled time of class/lab
    Ensure that program specific evaluation methods are administered and completed in a consistent and equitable manner and effectively assess the established course objectives
    Support students in achieving certification through effective teaching and classroom management
    Stay informed about and communicate changes in DSS policies, NC FAST system updates, and industry best practices

Minimum Requirements
Required educational background:
High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of HRD-4000 and

HSE-3220

Associate degree in Human Services Technology, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field Required kind and number years of work experience:
Current employment as an Income Maintenance Caseworker (minimum 5 years of experience) Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Proficiency in using the NC FAST system and understanding of DSS programs and policies
Experience teaching; On-the-Job Trainer or in an academic setting
Experience working with non-traditional and diverse adult populations Proficient computer skills Positive attitude
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Effective classroom management skills
Preferred Requirements
Successful completion of HRD-4000 and

HSE-3220

certificate
National Career Readiness Certification; Reading, Writing, and Applied Mathematics (minimum Silver level) preferred
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Services Technology, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field preferred with a minimum of 2 years of experience as DSS Income Maintenance Caseworker Experience teaching in an academic (college) setting preferred
Familiarity with adult education principles and teaching methodologies preferred
Experience working in a team environment preferred
Experience using classroom technology and learning management systems (Blackboard) and/or teaching online preferred
Experience using Google and Microsoft applications preferred
Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Mental Health First Aid training preferred
