Job Description
Position Summary:
Vance County High School is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and student-centered Economics and Personal Finance Teacher to provide engaging instruction that prepares students with essential financial literacy, economic understanding, and real-world decision-making skills. The ideal candidate will inspire critical thinking, promote responsible financial habits, and foster career and college readiness among students.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement standards-based lessons aligned with the North Carolina Economics and Personal Finance (EPF) curriculum.
Provide engaging instruction that incorporates financial literacy, economic principles, budgeting, credit, taxes, insurance, and career planning.
Use technology and real-world applications to enhance student learning and relevance.
Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments.
Create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student participation and inquiry.
Collaborate with colleagues and participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to improve instructional practices.
Integrate career and college readiness activities into the curriculum.
Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and grades.
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff to support academic success and personal development.
Participate in school-wide activities, events, and professional development.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Education, Social Studies, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
Valid North Carolina teaching license in Business Education (710), Social Studies (784), or related licensure area.
Strong knowledge of personal finance topics and economic principles.
Effective classroom management and instructional planning skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and the broader school community.
Experience teaching high school students preferred.
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
Experience with EverFi, Next Gen Personal Finance, or similar financial literacy platforms.
Familiarity with project-based learning and interdisciplinary instruction.
Passion for preparing students with real-world skills and financial responsibility.
Strong organizational, communication, and technology integration skills.
