Permanent, 10 Month Position Nature of Work Performs difficult professional work providing a broad range of teaching services or specific learning program, assisting students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning in accordance with each student’s ability, using a variety of teaching and learning methods at various levels to a targeted audience, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Principal. Qualifications and Licensure Bachelor’s Degree from an approved education program in the subject area NC Teaching License in appropriate subject area or have qualifications to obtain a NC teaching License Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards Duties and Responsibilities Plans and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Conducts assessments of student learning styles and uses results for instructional activities. Implements the IEPs of students with disabilities. Works cooperatively with general education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Works with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Plans and supervises assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Helps students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Communicates with parents in a timely manner; maintains positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents and community. Acts as a positive role model for students; supports the mission of the school district. Creates classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manages student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and state and federal laws. Provides or supervises personal care to include diapering and other essential needs, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in IEP. Conducts IEP meetings and annual review meetings as needed. Performs non-instructional duties as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Physical Requirements (if applicable) This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities. Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Special Requirements (if applicable) Ability to lead in the classroom by taking responsibility for all students’ learning. Ability to demonstrate leadership in the school by working collaboratively with all school personnel to create a professional learning community. Ability to lead the teaching profession by striving to improve the profession.
