History classes aim to empower students’ voices anddevelop them into global citizens by emphasizing textual analysis,analytical writing, and discourse. At the conclusion of highschool, students are prepared for academic autonomy and collegepreparatory work. Responsibilities 1. Instruction

  • You’ll teach acurriculum that prioritizes analysis of World, US History, AmericanGovernment, and Economics in preparation for Advanced Placement(AP) and collegiate level coursework.
  • You’ll facilitatestudent-led discourse of historical topics, where students grapplewith open-ended guiding questions, engage in peer to peer debate,and synthesize arguments.
  • You’ll guide students to understand theauthor’s claim and the power of sourcing while developing theskills of argumentation, corroboration, inquiry, and historiographythrough primary and secondary source analysis.
  • You’ll build aninclusive and safe environment where students are empowered to usetheir voices to express evidence-based opinions and perspectives.
  • You’ll work with the History department to determine academic andengagement goals for students. 2. Data Analysis
  • You’ll meetweekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyzeand respond to trends in student work samples and assessments.
  • You’ll learn and implement strategies to differentiate instructionfor all learners in your classroom. 3. School Culture
  • You’llbuild positive relationships with students to ensure they feelseen, loved, and heard.
  • You’ll partner with students’ families toensure appropriate resources are available to support their child’slearning needs.
  • You’ll engage in practice-based professionaldevelopment, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • You’llparticipate in weekly, school-wide meetings to cultivate community,model our core values, and encourage student achievement.
  • You’llpartner with your grade level team to develop academic goals andpractice instructional strategies. Qualifications
  • A demonstratedcommitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academicdevelopment
  • An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal andexternal partners in the best interest of students
  • Aself-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback toimprove outcomes and achieve objectives
  • Required Experience:
  • Ademonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schoolsand communities (1-2 years experience preferred).
  • Academicexpertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science,Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities.
  • Prior tothe start of employment, you must have a bachelor’s degree from anaccredited college or university.

Certification is not required tobe hired at Uncommon, but you do need to meet NY statecertification eligibility requirements. To meet these requirements,you must enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPAof 2.5 or higher during your employment with us if you do not havea degree in education. Uncommon Schools teachers are required tobecome certified in the state of New York within a reasonableperiod after beginning employment. Additional Information Ourpeople are what make us Uncommon. Ourcompensation philosophy values equity & fairness and attracting &retaining top talent. Compensation Compensation for this role isbetween $50,000 to $64,700. Starting pay is determined usingvarious factors including but not limited to relevant full-timeteaching experience, education certifications, and tenure withUncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teaching experiencewill likely have a starting salary of $50,000. Benefits
