A valid state teacher’s certificate with Gifted Education Endorsement. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Job Goal:
Lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Performance Responsibilities:
Oversees district gifted and talented education K-12; Provides leadership and ensures district compliance with statutes and regulations for categories of intellectual, specific academic, creativity, leadership, and visual and performing arts; Coordinates the identification, selection, and placement of students; Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated; Prepares for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior; Supports school site administrators with teacher development for instructional plans and activities for gifted students; Develops an improved understanding of gifted students’ educational needs on the part of teachers, administrators, and parents and interprets the educational needs; Serves as a gifted education consultant to teachers; Provides appropriate and regular reports concerning the program; Conducts an on-going evaluation of the program and makes recommendations regarding operation of the program; Compiles statistical data on student evaluation and works with other departments to prepare reports required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation; Disseminates information concerning opportunities for gifted children to parents, students, and staff; Prepares reports, summative evaluations, and grant applications required by the South Carolina of Education; Serves as a liaison to administrators, teachers, parents, and community; Develops and collaborates with others for district targeted professional development for teachers and school leaders; Performs in-service and/or faculty meeting reports as needed to inform staff of changes and/or trends in gifted education; Exhibits an active involvement in gifted education, an awareness of current trends, an appropriate training in the assigned area of instruction; Aids in locating and evaluating materials and equipment needed to meet instructional objectives; Oversees, implements, and trains proctors on the policies and procedures involved with any and all Gifted & Talented testing; Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved; Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives; Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; Evaluates student progress on a regular basis; Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy; Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms; Attends and participates in faculty meetings; Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned; Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students; Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others; Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning; Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
