COLLETON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION – LAW ENFORCEMENT INSTRUCTOR JOB PURPOSE
Is responsible for imparting knowledge and skills to high school students in the field of law enforcement. The candidate should have a strong background in law enforcement, public safety, and related occupations. The candidate will utilize research-based theories and strategies to teach, organize and implement structured lessons for students. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal and CTE Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports and upholds the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the Colleton County School District. Effectively interacts, communicates, and collaborates with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders to foster student learning. Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning and working environment. Teaches concepts and skills in law enforcement, including such areas as case studies, crime scene investigation, fingerprinting, handcuffing, and searches and seizures. Actively serves as a SkillsUSA advisor in preparing students for competition and leadership opportunities; chaperones trips to conferences and events. Instructs and coaches students in the rudiments of obtaining and retaining a job; stays informed of current entry job requirements; completes job references for students when requested. Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, activities, etc.; issue reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents of students’ progress. Demonstrates a variety of 21st century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers. Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st century global, knowledge-based economy. Develops students’ creative and practical problem-solving skills related to relevant materials and processes of the industry. Organizes classroom and laboratory areas for daily instruction. Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; analyzes assessment data in relation to student learning and develops instructional strategies to close the learning and performance gap; evaluates contributions in group projects. Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, competency forms, discipline reports, etc. Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, equipment, tools, and Personal Protective Equipment. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. Effective uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice Minimum three years of law enforcement experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities Valid South Carolina teaching certification Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Knowledge of policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of and ability to implement training methods used in teaching law enforcement and skills to classroom students. Ability to provide instruction to students using 21st century teaching requirements and/or supervised practices. Knowledge of and ability to implement methods of developing lesson plans, materials and classroom activities which stimulate learning and provide for personalization. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems. Knowledge of student service available and referral procedures. Ability to identify student adjustment and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.

WORK PLACE EXPECTATIONS
Conduct duties in a classroom and laboratory environment with no significant exposure to adverse environmental factors. Requires constant attention working with students. Requires physical demands of laboratory work which may involve lifting/moving of items weighing up to fifty pounds. Requires occasional travel; possible overnight travel required Requires use of general office and technology equipment. Work effectively with and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and professional manner for the assignment and work setting. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven trach record of managing maintenance operations. Inspire and motivate team as a visionary leader. Have regular and punctual attendance. Follow all District policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by the proper authorities.
