GENERAL DUTIES:
The Library Media Specialist is responsible for helping students develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to become effective and self-directed learners. The LMS prepares students to be critical thinkers, responsible creators, effective communicators, engaged readers, and skillful researchers. In addition, the Library Media Specialist is responsible for collaborating with teachers in order to provide instruction, resources, and materials to support and enrich the curriculum. This person provides leadership and instruction in the use of technologies and resources to engage students and foster a culture of creativity, investigation, and inquiry. The LMS teaches and reinforces the appropriate, responsible use of information and technology.

Ability to use technology to monitor and improve student achievement
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs in accordance with Region 14 teacher job description. Collaborates with classroom teachers to integrate inquiry, information literacy skills and the use of digital tools and technology in curriculum and instruction. Plans and administers the school media program, working cooperatively with staff, students and administration. Coordinates the selection, organization, distribution, and access to print and digital resources, materials, and technologies. Provides technology assistance and instructional support for teachers and students. Develops a positive climate that invites teachers and students to take full advantage of the library media center and its resources. Provides programs, initiatives, and access to quality reading materials to encourage and reinforce an interest in independent reading. Develops budget requests in consultation with the principal and curriculum coordinators. Acts as liaison between school and community libraries. Supervises volunteers (parents and students) who assist in performing routine clerical duties necessary for the operation of a library/media center. Performs additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification.
