Job Description:
The Part-Time Library Specialist position is directly accountable to the Director of Learning Resources and Library Services for the following duties and responsibilities: Provides one-on-one consultations as requested.
Provides reference support to faculty and students in person, online, via email, and phone.
Assists collection development librarian with selection of materials to be acquired by the library, as well as determining materials that are selected to be discarded.
Provides orientation and tours of library as requested by faculty and staff. Updates Info Guides to ensure information is up-to-date and accurate.
Regularly staffs reference and/or circulation desk, as scheduled.
Shelves books and reads shelves as required to maintain library stacks.
Participates in outreach initiatives by attending campus events and creating promotional materials.
Cooperates as a team member with the library staff and other departments in the building to perform any duty essential to efficient operation of services.
Resolves patron complaints whenever possible before directing them to immediate supervisor.
Maintains current knowledge of library trends by attending professional development opportunities.
Keeps track of circulation and reference statistics.
Opens and/or closes and secures the LRC, as scheduled.
Assists with various projects as needed.
Performs other duties and services as may be assigned or requested by the Director.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent degree required, with a strong preference for a school that has A.L.A. accreditation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) to two (2) years documented work experience in a library, preferably professional experience in a higher education setting.
Experience using Alma, OCLC, and/or similar library integrated systems is highly desirable.
Experience providing bibliographic instruction.
Experience providing reference services.
Proficiency in oral and written communication.
