Job Summary
The Part-time Reference Services Librarian’s principal responsibilities are providing research assistance and information literacy instruction to students, faculty and staff at Georgia Gwinnett College’s Daniel J. Kaufman Library and Learning Center. The Part-time Reference Services Librarian reports to the Head of Research Services and takes direction from the Evening Library Manager during evening shifts.
Responsibilities
Function 1

  • Provides individual research assistance to users through a variety of formats including walk-in, phone, chat, e-mail, and scheduled consultations
    Function 2
  • Provides user education at point-of-use for electronic and print resources including how to locate materials as well as evaluate for quality, credibility, authoritativeness, and reliability
    Function 3
  • Participates in evening/week-end research assistance provision
    Function 4
  • Contributes to collection development by suggesting new resources and identifying material for weeding based on subject content, date, and usage
    Function 5
  • Participates in information literacy instructional activities in both face-to-face and virtual environments
    Function 6
  • Participates in creation of learning materials in promotion of information literacy as well as resources and services
    Function 7
  • May serve as a library liaison to specific discipline areas
    Function 8
  • Performs other duties as assigned
    Required Qualifications
    ALA-accredited or BOR-approved master’s degree in Library or Information Science or currently registered in ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library or Information Science
    Preferred Qualifications
    Demonstrated experience in the use of instructional technology and learning management systems
    Demonstrated experience with electronic and print information resources from a variety of vendors
    Demonstrated evidence of strong public service orientation including customer service experience as well as written and oral communication skills
    Demonstrated knowledge and experience with technology including reference software and Springshare’s suite of software
    Demonstrated evidence of experience in providing information literacy instruction
    Demonstrated evidence of professional knowledge including trends and issues in reference and instruction
