GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of a Librarian of a higher classification, performs supervisory work as a staff specialist. A Librarian II has responsibility for a complex and special phase of library activity using acquired professional library techniques and procedures, as a section head at a large regional branch, as a branch manager for a community library, or as a specialist with a specific library skill. Incumbents of this class frequently provide general supervision to personnel of a lower classification. Direction is received from regional branch or division heads or higher administrative personnel. Work is reviewed through personal conferences, written reports and results obtained. Performs other work as requested.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree from an accredited school of library and information science and one year of experience in professional library work.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Equivalent higher education from an accredited school of library and information science may substitute for work experience.
