MU Libraries seeks an innovative and collaborative librarian to serve as Languages, Literatures and Digital Humanities Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Research and Information Services, this librarian will serve as a subject librarian for assigned humanities areas and supporting digital humanities. Entry level and experienced librarians are encouraged to apply. Training and mentorship will be provided.
Description of Duties
Library Liaison Activities
Serves as a proactive ambassador to highlight Libraries’ services, resources, and partnerships.
Keeps abreast of trends in scholarly communication, digital scholarship, and open educational resources.
Supports open data and research impact.
Reference and Research Support
Provides in-person and online research support (some evening/weekend hours required).
Participates in virtual research services (chat, text, email, phone).
Collaborates on online tools and services for teaching and research.
Instruction/Information Literacy
Plans and delivers inclusive, active-learning-based instruction.
Develops online guides and digital learning objects.
Contributes to general and interdisciplinary instruction.
Collection Development
Communicates with faculty on collection needs.
Manages budgets and monitors usage patterns.
Digital Humanities Leadership
Collaborates on digital scholarship projects and programming.
Explores new ideas for digital humanities support.
Professional Development
Participates in professional organizations, presentations, and publications.
Integrates best practices in service and scholarship.
Service
Participates in committees and task forces.
Maintains professional collaborations.
Inclusive Environment
Supports a welcoming and inclusive learning and working environment.
Other Duties
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong commitment to user-centered service.
Background or interest in humanities research support.
Interest in digital humanities.
Reading knowledge of a second language.
Interest in instruction and reference in various modalities.
Aptitude for new technologies.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Interest in collection development.
Initiative and self-development.
