POSITION SUMMARY

Provides each student with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual probing, growth, and aids all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in School Library Media or related field 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises and works with library media specialists, district Library Media Education staff, and other instructional personnel in support of student learning and evaluation of library media programs.

Provides professional development opportunities for library media specialists and other personnel as appropriate.

Coordinates the acquisition, organization distribution, maintenance, and assessment of district-wide online library media resources and the management/use of the centralized library automation system.

Evaluate, select, and requisition new library materials.

Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials.

Informs teachers and other staff members of new materials, the library materials, and instructs teachers and students on the use of the system.

Promote appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.

Help students develop habits of independent reference work and develop skills in the use of reference materials concerning planned assignments.

Presents and discusses materials with classes studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher.

Participates in curriculum meetings, staff development, in-service, etc.

Counsels with students and gives reading guidance to those who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.

Arrange frequently changing, book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the library’s patrons.

Organizes, maintains, and disseminates all library materials and audio-visual hardware/software.

Works within a prescribed budget to maintain adequate library services.

Formulates required inventories and reports.

Supervises library aides in the performance of their duties, where applicable.

Assist instructional personnel in the use of audio-visual equipment.

Facilitates the district library media committee and assists in building-level library media committees, local administrators, teachers, and library media specialists in the resolution of problems related to library media programs.

Stays abreast of changes and advancements in the library media field and uses various forms of communication to keep schools informed of these changes.

Projects budget needs, assists in the preparation and evaluation of bids for library media materials and monitors the use of local, state, and federal funds allotted for library media programs.
