DESCRIPTION

Library Media Coordinator (Middle Grades) Reports to :

Principal Purpose :

To lead, develop, and maintain a dynamic, student-centered school library media program that supports the instructional goals of the school and promotes 21st-century skills, including information literacy, digital citizenship, technology integration, and a love of reading.

Qualifications:
Required:

Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License as a School Library Media Coordinator (Area 076). Strong knowledge of middle grades curriculum, instructional strategies, and adolescent literacy development. Demonstrated proficiency with digital learning tools, library management systems, and emerging technologies. Excellent collaboration, communication, and leadership skills. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student empowerment.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in Library Science, Instructional Technology, or a related field. Experience in a middle school or similar educational setting. Familiarity with the North Carolina Digital Learning Standards and AASL National School Library Standards.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Instructional Partner Collaborate with teachers to design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction that integrates information literacy and technology. Teach students and staff to effectively locate, evaluate, and use information and digital tools. Embed high yield teaching and learning practices into the curriculum to foster critical thinking and lifelong learning. Promote and facilitate the integration of media and digital resources into instruction across subject areas. 2. Information and Technology Specialist Provide leadership in the use of digital tools and instructional technologies to enhance learning outcomes. Curate and manage print and digital collections that reflect the diverse learning needs, cultures, and interests of the school community. Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies and educational trends to support innovation in teaching and learning. 3. Library Media Program Administrator Develop, implement, and evaluate a strategic vision for the school’s library media program aligned to state standards and district priorities. Manage the library space and resources to create a welcoming, flexible, and inclusive environment conducive to learning and collaboration. Coordinate and oversee library operations including budgeting, inventory, collection development, and scheduling. Ensure compliance with copyright laws, intellectual property guidelines, and district policies. 4. School Leader and Advocate Serve as a key member of the instructional leadership team. Advocate for the library media program by promoting its impact on student achievement and school improvement. Engage families and the broader school community in literacy and technology initiatives. Physical Requirements:

Must be able to use various equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for students with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Due to the time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for light work.
