Monday – Friday 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM, with occasional nights and weekends, as needed. Role:
The Library Branch Manager is responsible for efficiently and effectively operating a branch/section. The Branch Manager should provide excellent customer service and engage with colleagues and the community. This position supervises public service operations, including circulation, scheduling meeting/work spaces, and delivering library services and programs for children, teens, and adults. Positions are available to support the McGirt-Horton and Glenwood Library locations.
Key responsibilities include:
Public Relations and Community Engagement:
Serve as the primary contact for community inquiries, concerns, and customer service. This involves managing and working the public service desk, answering reference/information questions, providing readers with advisory services, and helping resolve issues about customers’ library accounts and the overall quality of customers’ library experiences.
Administration:
Assist and support the Library Administration with the strategic assessment and response to the community’s expressed and observed needs. Branch Managers participate on the Library’s Managers Team, leading and assisting in approving, developing, delivering, and assessing branch/section-specific programs and serving on special committees or project teams as assigned by the Library Administration. This position also helps monitor assigned branch/section budgets and expenditures and implements cost-saving measures, work plans, and statistical reports.
Human Resource Management:
This position leads and oversees branch staff while creating work schedules based on branch requirements. It supervises, develops and coaches staff, ensures adherence to policies and procedures, fosters teamwork, and participates in recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation.
Facility Management:
Oversee branch maintenance, operations, and scheduling. Develop and implement maintenance plans to ensure safety, cleanliness, and functionality. Coordinate with city departments and contractors for facility improvements and regulatory compliance. Coordinate with the Department Safety Liaison to implement safety measures, conduct inspections, and address risks. Maintain collections, oversee circulation, and promote literacy initiatives. Monitor and analyze branch performance metrics for continuous improvement. Work collaboratively with subordinates and superiors to oversee and implement the branch/section work plan. Interpret and apply City and department-specific policies, guidelines, and best practices to resolve identified problems or challenges. Foster a high-performance, customer-focused work environment. The person in this position should be detail-oriented, emotionally intelligent, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, maintain confidentiality, and be able to work independently and collaboratively. Strong leadership and organizational skills are essential. The selected applicant must have extensive knowledge of current library trends, principles, and practices of modern library systems and programs, technology and digital resources. Qualifications What You Bring:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree with 4-6 years of experience managing a library facility, operations, and distribution of library materials. “OR” Bachelor’s Degree with 8-10 years of experience managing a library facility, operations, and distribution of library materials. Customer Service experience Supervisory experience (direct and indirect reports) Experience monitoring and analyzing budgets and branch performance metrics for improvement Experience supporting Work Plan Goals and Objectives and preparing statistical reports Experience maintaining library materials collections, overseeing circulation and promoting literacy initiatives Experience using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) Master’s Degree in a related field (i.e. Education, Business, etc.). 2+ years of experience working in a public library Experience using library ILS (e.g., Horizon). Experience supervising a large youth services program Experience in strategic planning and community engagement Bilingual skills are a plus Ready to Lead?
