SUMMARY SUNY

Brockport is accepting applications for an Archives and Special Collections Librarian. Drake Memorial Library at SUNY Brockport is seeking a patron-focused, collaborative, and detail-oriented person to lead the work of the institution’s archives and special collections. The Archives and Special Collections Librarian will have primary responsibility for the physical and digital collections which comprise the archives and special collections of the institution, including the digital repositories. This includes the Rose Archives, the physical collection of SUNY Brockport’s institutional history housed in the Drake Memorial Library, as well as SUNY Brockport’s two digital repositories containing faculty publications, student theses & dissertations, digitized archival items, and institutional records (SUNY Open Access Repository and SUNY Digital Repository). The Archives and Special Collections Librarian will arrange, describe, preserve, and digitize items related to SUNY Brockport’s institutional history. They will lead efforts to preserve born-digital institutional content, such as webpages and social media. They will implement systems, processes, and procedures to make these collections accessible to patrons. They will teach students and other patrons how to effectively use these collections. They will promote the use of the Rose Archives and the digital repositories and solicit digital and physical donations from faculty, staff, students, departments, and others. They will support library communications efforts and create physical and digital displays to highlight items from the archives and special collections. The Archives and Special Collections Librarian will supervise student employees hired to support archives and digital repository work, as well as student interns seeking experience working in an archive. They will oversee digital repository work completed by staff in all library departments. The successful candidate will also participate in the library’s liaison program, including providing information literacy instruction, research consultations, and participating in reference desk service. This is an open rank faculty position: Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian. This position is eligible for promotion and tenure in accordance with policies and procedures of

JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:

Arranges, describes, preserves, and digitizes items related to SUNY Brockport’s institutional history, including physical and digital formats. Maintains and improves discoverability of items in the collection. Supervises classified staff, student employees, and student interns. (35%) Assists researchers using the archives. (15%) Contributes to the profession through library teams, campus committees, professional organizations, and research and scholarship. (15%) Promotes the archival and special collections through physical and digital displays, events, and campus communication channels. (10%) Solicits materials and develop systems and processes to encourage donations and submissions of physical and digital items to the archives and special collections. (10%)

Non-Essential Functions:

Provides research consultations and reference services, including occasional evenings and weekends. (10%) Participates in the library’s liaison program, including providing information literacy instruction. (5%)

REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited institution or an ALA-approved foreign equivalent from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university Minimum of six months of experience working with archives and/or special collections Demonstrated capacity to work independently and to collaborate with others Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working and teaching environment Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of archival standards such as DACS and EAD Demonstrated knowledge of metadata standards such as MARC and Dublin Core Experience with preparation of finding aids according to best practices Experience with digitization and digital curation projects Experience with Archive-It or other web archiving software Experience managing library or archives projects

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Schedule:

37.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm, some night and weekend work required on rotation
