School Librarian The School Librarian fosters a vibrant, inclusive learning environment by managing the school library, curating diverse resources, and collaborating with faculty to support curriculum and promote literacy. The librarian is both an instructional leader and a technology integrator, helping students become critical thinkers, effective researchers, and ethical users of information. Key Responsibilities Library and Resource Management Maintain an organized, welcoming, and age-appropriate library space. Select, acquire, catalog, and manage a diverse and current collection of print and digital materials. Oversee library budget and vendor relationships. Instruction and Collaboration Teach library skills, research strategies, and digital citizenship across grade levels. Partner with teachers to integrate information literacy and reading into the curriculum. Support project-based learning, independent reading, and academic research. Technology Integration Promote and support the use of educational technology in the classroom. Provide training and support for students and faculty on digital tools and research databases. Manage subscriptions to online learning resources and library systems. Reading Culture and Programming Foster a love of reading through book talks, author visits, reading challenges, and clubs. Curate culturally responsive and inclusive materials that reflect and respect the diversity of the school community. Administration and Supervision Develop and enforce policies for appropriate use of the library space and resources. Supervise students in the library and train student volunteers or aides as needed. Maintain circulation records and generate reports on library usage. Qualifications Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program. State certification as a school librarian (or ability to obtain). Experience working in a school or educational setting is preferred. Strong technology, communication, and organizational skills. Commitment to fostering inclusive, equitable access to information and learning.
