JOB GOAL
To develop instructional programs and services that ensure students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have required, current RIDE certification. Bachelor degree preferred.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluate, select and requisition new library media center materials, both print and non-print. Order, receive, check and process materials for circulation following established procedures. Manage a program (resources, facility and services) in which students receive instruction and practice in the use of information. Provide reference services and assistance in identifying and locating information. Provide access to and assistance in using information resources in all formats. Provide instruction in the operation and application of library media center technologies in accordance with adopted District curriculum/standards. Provide continual integration of library media skills and services into the curriculum. Work with teachers to plan, design, deliver and evaluate instruction using a variety of resources and information problem solving skills. Develop programs that encourage appreciation of literature for both information and recreation. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system (automated or card) for cataloging all library materials and instruct teachers and students in use of system. Prepare the annual library media center budget. Perform library year-end activities, specifically inventory. Arrange for inter-library loan of materials of interest or use to teachers and students, when possible. Promote appropriate conduct of students using library facilities. Provide guidance to students with special reading needs and intellectual interests. Participate in curriculum meetings, staff meetings and in-service activities. Maintain a working relation with the town library system. Perform other library media duties as responsibilities necessitate.
