Position Overview:

The Central Falls School District seeks to hire a talented, knowledgeable, and highly innovative certified educator to fill the Library Media Specialist position at Veterans Memorial Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year. Position Responsibilities and Expectations:

Administers setup and maintenance of automated catalog and circulation systems, selects and purchases new materials to ensure a balanced library collection, conducts an annual survey as a means of evaluating the library media program and its services, as well as to provide a forum for faculty and student input and suggestions.
Prepares and administers the library budget, instructs students and staff in using the library system, and provides access to information through online resources.
Network with other professionals through participation in local, state, and national organizations.
Works with school staff to develop a schedule for effective library use by class groups (large and small) and individuals; posts an electronic calendar.
Identifies obsolete and worn materials on an ongoing basis and maintains an up-to-date catalog of the library collections.
Cultivates a stewardship of collaborative learning and leadership in and out of the classroom, distributing knowledge and expertise in a skillful way that empowers and supports others.
Collaborates with all classroom teachers and content areas to design and implement classroom instruction that increases blended learning opportunities for all students.
Facilitate/model strategies for successfully implementing blended learning classrooms identified by the administration.
Provides group and individual instruction in information literacy skills, research strategies, and electronic resources and equipment.
Provides reference and readers’ advisory services to all students, including those struggling with reading or special educational needs.
Update instructional and library-related professional skills through attendance at conferences and participation in continuing education opportunities.
Prepares bibliographies.
Incorporates the American Library Association, American Association of School Librarians, and School Librarians of Rhode Island standards.
Collaborates with instructional staff in preparing and delivering lessons that effectively use information resources and incorporate information literacy skills.
Assists staff with accessing informational resources in a variety of formats and integrating literacy skills throughout the curriculum.
Assists students and staff with Google Classroom and related programs.
Informs students and staff of the arrival of new materials and online resources.
Promotes the ethical use of information (e.g., research standards, plagiarism, appropriate use of technology, etc.).
Incorporate a student’s background in the lesson plan and understand how to linguistically make connections with prior native language development.
Sets and pursues meaningful goals based on educational best practices and focuses on improving student/stakeholder outcomes at all times.
Consistently demonstrates a belief that the individual is capable of learning and growth; learns from reflection and feedback; actively assesses knowledge, skills, and talent deficits; and makes a concerted effort to close gaps.
Empowers students to become self-motivated, responsible, and resilient learners.
Maintains a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes the academic, social, and personal well-being of all students.
Ensure that practices enable students, staff, and parents to interact effectively in a culturally diverse environment where ALL backgrounds, identities, customs, and traits are respected and built into the learning process.
Demonstrates ethical behavior, expectations, and a genuine concern for others under all circumstances; models what is expected of others.
Completes all tasks, reports, and all necessary requirements associated with teaching a class in a timely manner.
Effectively communicates with families regularly via phone calls, emails, and written correspondence to discuss student performance, attendance, progress, etc.
Other duties as deemed necessary by the building administrator.
