33431 ALA accredited Masters required: No The part-time Late-Night Library Assistant will provide high-quality customer service and support to library users. The library assistant will assist users with research support, locating materials, and general library services. This position will provide basic IT support for printing, scanning, and troubleshooting technical issues in person and by phone. This position is scheduled Sunday through Thursday, working 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. during the first three weeks of each academic block, and 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. during the final week of each block. The role follows the academic calendar (approximately 32 weeks per year) and does not include breaks or summers. Essential duties and responsibilities Provide polite, high-quality customer service to the Lynn community, providing timely support for Library and IT needs within accepted university practices. Help patrons do research, and find materials in the online catalog and databases, in person, via email, and online chat. Educate users about library services and policies. Check materials in and out, handles reserves items and holds, working with the library circulation system. Assist with reports on overdue items and helps find interlibrary loan items Troubleshoot problems with printers, copiers, scanners, and PCs in the library building. Manage day-to-day interlibrary loan (ILL) processing and coordination. Train and supervise student assistants, especially with ILL tasks. Provide Tier-1 (initial, basic) IT help when the IT Support Desk is closed. Identify and resolve general computer and software issues (operating system issues, password locks, email issues, wireless issues). Report/escalate issues through the appropriate channels in a timely manner. Other duties as assigned. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities Excellent customer service skills Able to work late-night hours, and comfortable with both customer service and basic technology support tasks. Comfortable working without additional library staff is essential, position works largely with only student workers. Ability to work independently after initial training
Education/Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications Bachelor’s degree in library and information science or related field. Experience in front-line, public-facing service, preferably in a Library environment. Knowledge of both PC and Mac OS and familiarity with supporting Apple devices including iPhones and iPads. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain and implement policies and procedures. Comfortable working via online chat. Most interactions will be through our chat service. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in library and information science or equivalent; or a candidate currently in an MLIS program. Experience providing library reference assistance and complex research help. Experience analyzing and troubleshooting computer systems, software and peripherals.
