ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
This is professional work which provides overview, management, direction, supervision, and coordination of the library. Work involves assisting the City Librarian in the overall administration of the library and serves as the library’s administrator in the absence of the City Librarian. Assist the Library Director in budget preparation, tracking, and reporting. Evaluate collection needs, organization, care, and arrangement with input from staff in charge of collections. Assist in setting and achieving long-term goals, including facilities planning, technology upgrades, and service enhancements. Participate in the development, review, and enforcement of library policies and procedures. Assist in planning and development of library programs and services, incorporating input from all library departments, and utilizes data and community feedback to enhance service offerings. Facilitate the collection, management, preservation, and accessibility of historical records, including tasks such as cataloging, organizing, and digitizing archival materials. Prepare state, local, and other statistical or narrative reports as needed. Represent the library in community meetings, build partnerships, and promote library services through outreach and public programs. Assist with hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff. Serve as the library’s administrator in the absence of the City Librarian. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles and practices of public library functions; current trends and practices affecting public library services; and of online resources with special emphasis on digital asset management. Skill in preparing and administrating budgets. Experience in collection development. Ability to present ideas clearly; supervise staff; be professionally active in the library community; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public; and communicate effectively with library patrons and fellow employees.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from a graduate library/information science program with emphasis areas of study relevant to public librarianship. Three (3) years of experience including some administration in public service in a public library. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and other competencies necessary for success in the target position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven.
