This position plays a key role in creating a welcoming environment for students and visitors, providing support with library services, basic technology, and resource navigation.
Schedule:
Evening shift: 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position is dedicated to providing exemplary customer service to all visitors at the Pruitt Campus Library. Deliver excellent customer service to library patrons and assisting students with basic technology inquiries. Instruct the public and library staff in the use of IRSC resources, such as include the online catalog, databases, and print materials.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide excellent patron service this include readers’ advisory and reference services, and other support to library patrons of all ages (25%); Assist patrons with basic library, computer, and equipment requests (25%); Maintain a safe and secure environment. Enforce patron adherence to library procedures and guidelines (25%); Log use statistics. Record and track library usage data (10%); Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned (15%);
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Associate’s degree from an accredited institution OR a combination of education, experience, and/or training relevant to the position, which provides the necessary skills, abilities, and knowledge in the area of customer service; Maintaining a professional demeanor and tone at all times; Proven ability to work effectively with all populations; Exceptional customer service, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills; Proven basic knowledge of library operations; Abilities in effective problem solving with both internal and external customers; Ability to be sensitive to patron privacy and intellectual freedom issues; Ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with colleagues, and the general public; Ability to describe and train internal and external customers the basics of how to utilize library services; Possess a professional demeanor; Works positively and effectively within a team model or independently with minimal supervision; Ability to understand and follow verbal and or written policies, procedures, and instructions; Ability to prioritize work and exercises independent and sound judgment, particularly in stressful situations; Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications;
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
