Job Description

  • Job Summary
  • The Library Clerk performs administrative and clerical work involving circulation, cataloging and program activities, and providing library services to the public.
  • Essential Job Functions

•?Check out books for library patrons and process books returned to the library?

Provide assistance to patrons in locating books and other materials?

Process library memberships?

Assist in maintaining and monitoring the library collection?

Assist in materials processing activities?

Contact patrons regarding overdue books; compute and collect ?nes for overdue books?

Assist children in locating books with appropriate reading levels?

Monitor patron behavior and noise level in the library?

Maintain ?les, type correspondence, news releases, purchase requisitions, membership cards, book order cards and other forms and materials?

Operate and troubleshoot computers, printers, copiers, and other library technology?

Plan and host library programs?

Promote library functions, programs, and events?

Travel between locations to e?ectively address the business needs of the department?

Adheres to work schedule and attendance requirements, including nights and weekends?

Performs other work as directed and required

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•?Knowledge of standard library procedures, practices and methods, and reader interest levels?

Skill in operating library technology, including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and cash registers?

Skill in operating and troubleshooting Windows OS, Microsoft O?ce Suite, and other widely used software?

Ability to make simple arithmetic computations?

Ability to ?le rapidly and accurately alphabetical and numerical material?

Ability to self-motivate and work within timelines and deadlines?

Ability to proofread written material?

Ability to communicate e?ectively verbally and in writing?

Ability to establish and maintain e?ective, courteous working relationships with public o?cials, peers, other divisions and departments, and citizens?

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, o?ering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns

  • Minimum Quali?cations

Required:

?Six (6) months or more of professional experience in customer service?

Valid drivers license

Preferred:

Computer or clerical work experience

Moves, lifts, carries, and places objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance. Work is performed mostly in an o?ce setting where the noise level is usually quiet. This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Walton County.
