invites applicants for the position of Library Technical Services Assistant in the Frazar Memorial Library. This is a full-time, 12-month, unclassified position.

POSITION DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the department head, this position performs all operations necessary to maintain efficient interlibrary loan services, including record keeping, mail handling, and use of OCLC and ILL Management Systems.

Administrative responsibilities:

Oversees interlibrary loan borrowing and lending procedures to ensure efficient and effective processing of transactions.
Maintains records and statistics relative to interlibrary loan operations.
Remains current with changes in librarianship, particularly as applicable to interlibrary loan, document delivery, and other computer-assisted information services.
Reports on interlibrary loan problem areas and procedural changes and prepares reports as needed.
Participates in activities relating to resource sharing and networking.
An openness to learning new things. Maintains records and statistics relative to interlibrary loan operations.
Formulates department policies and procedures.
Serves on committees and other related duties as assigned.

Technical Responsibilities:

Performs all operations necessary to maintain efficient interlibrary loan services, including record keeping, mail handling, and use of OCLC and ILL Management Systems.
Assists patrons with accessing databases, particularly those relating to ILL services.
Verifies bibliographic information for interlibrary loan citations and communicates with patrons and other libraries regarding the status of requests.
Maintains a smooth workflow for borrowing and lending transactions to allow for tracking and troubleshooting problems. Performs advanced searches in available resources (print and electronic) for items requested by McNeese patrons and our ILL partners. Retrieves requested loan items from library collections.
Prepares items to be shipped via electronic, courier service, or commercial shipper.
Documents and stores records following applicable document retention policies.

REQUIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

Associate’s Degree (or higher) with at least 2 years of work experience in a related (clerical) job
Demonstrated competency with MS Office products especially Word and Excel
Excellent time management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
A genuine customer service mindset and the desire to serve a diverse community of library users

Preferred:

Bachelor’s Degree (any field)
Experience working in an academic library
Supervisory experience
Experience with an Integrated library system (Symphony Workflows / SymphonyWeb)
Experience with ILL systems (ILLiad, Odyssey, Article Exchange, OCLC Worldshare, and Docline)
